DescriptionThe Modesto Irrigation District is currently recruiting to fill one full-time regular position in Fleet Maintenance, General Services Department to perform scheduled routine maintenance, lubrication and safety checks of all District vehicles and equipment.
Any qualified individual may apply. This is a non-exempt position and is allocated to the Utility Services and Maintenance Bargaining Unit. The list established as a result of this recruitment may be used to fill other Service Mechanic vacancies within the District that may occur through May 5, 2027.
Examples of DutiesDuties may include, but are not limited to the following:
- Lubricate, remove engine oil and safety check vehicles, light and heavy equipments;
- Perform service and maintenance on all District vehicles and equipment consisting of checking or changing lights, belts, hoses, brakes, tires, wiper blades, coolant, batteries and other components;
- Perform minor repairs as needed;
- Write repair orders and report unsafe light and heavy equipment in the field;
- Perform minor repairs in the field;
- Use computer equipment to gather data, including time keeping;
- Clean and maintain lubrication room.
Other Related DutiesAssist heavy equipment mechanics; wash vehicles and steam clean equipment; other duties as assigned.
Typical QualificationsAny combination of education, experience, knowledge and abilities may satisfy the necessary minimum qualifications. A typical way to obtain the education, experience knowledge and abilities would be:
Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
Experience: Three (3) years of experience in mechanics, automotive maintenance, and engine powered equipment service preferred.
Knowledge of: - Automotive technology including lubrication devices, materials and specific applications; diagnose, analyze and repair minor problems; diagnostics in repair of lights, belts, hoses, batteries, and brakes; minor maintenance of a variety of vehicles and equipment, including diesel engines, and heavy duty automatic transmissions.
Ability to: - Use various tools in the minor repair of equipment; work without immediate supervision; work cooperatively with others; perform medium to heavy physical effort during the day; keep record of repairs and maintenance; read technical manuals and understand written instruction; correctly diagnose noises; squeaks and rattles, and various engine sounds.
Special Requirements: Must have a valid California Class C driver license. Must have a State brake license and a State lamp license within one year of placement in the position and must have these licenses thereafter is required.
