    General Services Department, Fleet Services Division
    Pay Range: $22.61-$34.48 per hour
    Work Location: 5300 Municipal Ave
    Schedule: Monday-Friday, 7:30 a.m.-4:00 p.m.

    Responsibilities

    What you'll do
    • Perform routine and advanced maintenance on automobiles, trucks, street sweepers, and heavy equipment by greasing, lubricating, servicing batteries, and maintaining fuel, oil, and cooling systems to keep the fleet operational and safe.
    • Diagnose, disassemble, inspect, and repair a wide variety of automotive, heavy road, and specialized equipment, including engines, transmissions, differentials, brakes, clutches, hydraulic systems, and electrical systems, ensuring reliable return to service.
    • Complete major and minor engine overhaul work, including refacing valves and seats, installing rings and bearings, rebuilding carburetors, and ensuring proper clearances to extend equipment life.
    • Perform electrical diagnostics and repairs, including work on wiring systems, starters, alternators, generators, and regulators, using shop tools and diagnostic instruments to locate and correct defects.
    • Provide field service support, including tire changes and on-site repairs for light and heavy trucks, graders, tractors, and other equipment, minimizing downtime for operations.
    • Maintain clean, organized garage work areas, assist other mechanics with complex repairs, perform welding and machine work as needed, conduct operational tests on repaired equipment, and support snow removal operations when required.

    • Supervisors and crews can rely on fleet readiness to support daily and emergency operations.

    Qualifications

    REQUIRES
    • 3 months of semi-skilled experience in automotive repairs; OR an equivalent combination of qualifying education and experience which may include the successful completion of an automotive repair trade school or the successful completion of a vocational technical program in automotive maintenance or completion of the Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification as a master automotive/truck technician.
    • Must possess a valid state-issued driver's license in accordance with City of KCMO policies.
    • Must possess a valid MO Class A, B or C CDL as determined by the department prior to the end of the probationary period.
    • Must possess a valid MO Inspector Mechanic permit prior to the end of the probationary period.
    • Must pass a pre-employment drug screen and post-offer physical examination as prescribed by the City.

    If appointed, non-residents must obtain residency inside Kansas City, Missouri's city limits within nine months.
