General Statement of Job:
The Building Inspector I/II/III performs technical work inspecting building construction on-site for compliance with approved plans and applicable city, state and federal codes. Under supervision of the Chief Inspector, this position demonstrates strong time management and self-direction as they perform field inspections of complex development sites, systems, work in progress or completed work, issue notices of violations for non-conformance, and re-inspect when deficiencies are corrected.
A Building Inspector is sub-classified per trade qualifications as either "Structural", "Electrical", "Plumbing" or "Mechanical". As an essential employee, a Building Inspector will be required to perform post-tropical cyclone damage assessment or other special work detail. All Inspectors must meet all the education and experience requirements, hold required licensure and certifications, and have additional inspection work experience, all as noted below.

BUILDING INSPECTOR I
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
State of Florida certification or registration as a contractor qualified to supervise and perform construction work in one or more of the technical sub-classifications or current licensures as an Architect or Professional Engineer in the State of Florida.
Uncertified Inspectors are required to obtain a minimum of one (1) valid Standard Inspector Certification within their probationary period in an appropriate sub-category from the State of Florida. Individuals employed as provisional inspectors shall remain in a probationary employment status until such time as Standard Certification is obtained or for a period of one year, whichever is longer.
