About This Position Job Description:Austin Resource Recovery Crew LeaderPurpose:Under general supervision, this position supervises employees in the field engaged in the recovery and processing of resources such as trash, recyclables, brush, yard trimmings, bulk, dead animals, street cleaning activities, litter collection, and household composting items.
Duties, Functions and Responsibilities:- Essential duties and functions, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following. Other related duties may be assigned.
- Ensures staff compliance with policies and procedures and documents subordinate employee performance.
- Develops, coordinates, assigns, and monitors schedules and activities between work groups in field, providing assistance and information to the crew's supervisor, as required in disciplinary actions, in administration of performance reviews, and in the section's budget, programs, projects, and activities.
- Acts as backup to the supervisor in their absence or as directed by management. Records data on appropriate forms and logs and enters data into system, writes memos, and prepares reports as needed.
- Reviews work of other crew members for completeness and quality, ensuring the crew’s assigned results are met. Trains others in the proper use of equipment and vehicles as required by management.
- Interacts with other divisions, departments, and the public; investigates and responds to complaints from employees and the public; and resolves conflicts.
- Ensures vehicles, equipment, and material are maintained and repaired timely. Pre-trips all vehicles and heavy equipment as required by management and maintains detailed vehicle and equipment records, completing paperwork, forms, and reports related to collection activities.
- Pick-ups, processes, or disposes of trash, brush, litter, recyclables, bulky items, re-use items, or compostable items and dumps collected materials at designated dump sites/landfill. Cleans up illegal dump sites, parkland, targeted encampment sites, and other sites with high volume of trash-related complaints or concerns throughout the City of Austin. Learns and follows routes, reads street maps, and micro-routes to locate route destinations.
- Decides whether to pick up trash that is set out improperly. Provides information to customers, when appropriate, and responds to routine customer questions about work being performed. Places customer notices, door hangers, and public information literature.
- Follows all safety rules. Observes and reports accidents, burglaries, and hazardous situations.
- Assists other Austin Resource Recovery (ARR) crews as directed and performs other duties as assigned and perform the tasks of ARR Associates, Operator Trainees, Operators, and Operator Seniors as needed.

Minimum Qualifications:Graduation from an accredited high school or equivalent, plus three (3) years of driving experience with a Commercial Driver License.
Licenses and Certifications Required:- Current Class B Commercial Driver License OR Current Class A Commercial Driver License as required by position.
- As required for Position: Licensed for endorsements within 120 days of employment.

Preferred Qualifications:- Experience with warehouse operations and logistics and operating heavy equipment, such as a box truck and forklift.
- Experience leading a team.
- Experience with Microsoft Office and logistics/inventory software.
- Experience working with vulnerable or underserved populations.
- Ability to fluently communicate in English and Spanish

Position Overview:This position works at a reuse warehouse that focuses mainly on furniture. The goal is to give furniture to people who are moving out of homelessness. This employee will lead a small team that receives, sorts, stores, tracks, and distributes donated furniture and other items such as electronics and appliances. They will use a digital database to track furniture and view customer appointments. They will also help set up, clean, and organize the warehouse, work with vendors, and provide customer service to case workers and their clients, as well as furniture donors. This person will train new staff and provide additional training when needed. The job requires lifting items up to 50 pounds, standing for long periods, and working in a busy warehouse and sometimes outdoors in different weather conditions. This position requires a Current Commercial Driver License, Minimum Class B License and must obtain a Class A Commercial Driver’s License and/or required endorsements within 120 days of employment.
