Explosives Detection Canine Handler (Armed)

The Explosives Detection Canine (EDC) Handler (Armed) plays a crucial role in ensuring the security and safety of client shopping mall locations by conducting thorough searches for explosives alongside an explosives detection canine.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • The EDC Handler will be paired with an explosives detection canine and will search for explosives at client shopping mall location(s).
  • The EDC Handler shall operate canine in accordance with the program and perform alarm resolution services as needed.
  • The EDC Handler shall liaise with clients, security personnel, law enforcement representatives, and other client partners to properly execute client security plans and procedures.
  • The EDC Handler shall maintain professional, effective verbal and written communication with client and company management.
  • The EDC Handler shall adhere to a customer service focused mission.
  • The EDC Handler shall maintain a professional image and demeanor and possess high quality customer service skills.
  • The EDC Handler shall be flexible to handle last-minute shift changes and/or post changes to meet client requirements.
  • The EDC Handler shall maintain canine proficiency in accordance with contract policies and procedures and maintain required annual certifications.
  • The EDC Handler shall maintain day-to-day health and welfare of assigned canine and perform basic canine emergency first-aid, if necessary.
  • The EDC Handler shall properly maintain all issued equipment and uniforms.
  • The EDC Handler shall participate in scheduled canine training events.
  • The EDC Handler shall obtain and maintain any state security officer licensing requirements.

Required Education, Certifications, Licenses, and Experience:

  • Must be a US citizen.
  • Must pass criminal background checks including drug testing.
  • Must possess state Security Guard and Firearms licensure.
  • Must have the ability to house and care for the canine in your personal residence.

Preferred Education, Certifications, Licenses, and Experience:

  • Legally own and possess a New York registered approved Glock 9mm semiautomatic pistol.
  • Prior law enforcement or military canine handling experience.
  • Prior body-borne or person-borne canine handling experience.
  • Standby duty willingness and availability.

Work Environment:

Employees may be exposed to extreme cold or hot weather conditions, fumes, or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and loud noise.

Physical Requirements:

Employees may be required to remain in a stationary position, stand, push, pull, climb, kneel, crawl, balance, squat, bend, and reach during shifts. Employees may be also required to use gear to move items around, including, but not limited to, carts and dollies. Employees may also be occasionally required to lift and/or move up to 49 pounds.
