Correctional Programs Supervisor (S) Position Number: 60000930 | Grade: NC08 | Agency: Adult Correction Division, COO - OPS - Institutions OperationsJob Location: Eastern Correctional Institution.Description of Work This position serves as the Recreation Coordinator and is responsible for the overall recreational program for inmates in a state prison facility. The role reports to the Associate Warden for Operations and must ensure that performance‑based standards and expected practices are established and met.Duties Develop, implement, and maintain the recreational program, ensuring compliance with accreditation requirements.Create a comprehensive annual recreation plan to promote physical, mental, emotional, and social well‑being of the inmate population.Plan and oversee recreational activities, seasonal and holiday events, and recognition activities involving both the facility and the community.Purchase, inventory, and distribute equipment and supplies; evaluate recreational areas; maintain equipment and areas.Oversee library access for all offenders (books, movies) and coordinate plans with staff and management.Ensure offenders with disabilities and those in close custody/restrictive housing have access to all recreational programs within their restrictions.Coordinate with community agencies to enrich programs, establish new programs, and work with community volunteers.Supervise staff and offenders who work with the recreational programs (no direct inmate caseload).Management Preferences (KSA) Thorough knowledge of prison operations policies and procedures acquired through correctional facility work experience.Documented knowledge of services available from community and public/private programs through work or volunteer experience.Documented experience developing or supporting activities or events for large groups of individuals.Minimum Education and Experience Bachelor's degree in a human services or criminal justice field from an accredited institution and one year of experience in corrections or related work; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.Special Qualifications Eligibility for certification by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education & Training Standards Commission.Benefits Full‑time position (40 hours per week) with State benefits.
