The mission of the Department is to maintain community appearance and enhance quality of life in Aurora's neighborhoods through outreach, education, code enforcement, and improvement programs.Primary Duties & ResponsibilitiesInspection / Compliance DutiesInterprets and enforces City codes and ordinances pertaining to zoning, housing, building, and planningResearches property ownershipSchedules and performs detailed inspections through the Multi‑Family Systematic Housing Inspection Program to maintain or achieve minimum housing standardsCoordinates and performs inspections of rental properties to ensure compliance with general housing, electrical, plumbing, and structural maintenance requirementsIssues Notices of Violation and contacts homeowners and businessesPerforms site‑plan inspections and reviews, reads and interprets maps and plansConducts investigations, including occupancy violations and illegal businessesPrepares electronic records and reports for abatements, court actions, daily activities, enforcement actions and inspectionsCompiles documentation for and issues summonses to municipal courtTestifies in municipal courtPhotographs and documents evidence of violationsPerforms other related duties as assignedCommunity / Communication DutiesAttends neighborhood meetings to discuss and educate community members and businesses about City codesParticipates in conflict resolution procedures to resolve neighborhood disputesResponds to community members concerns and complaints, including City Council requestsGives presentations to neighborhood associationsActs as a liaison between community members and other City departments for City services and actionsOther Duties and ResponsibilitiesOccasional weekend work, required to be on‑call occasionally, on weekends and after hours, as neededMay perform additional duties as assignedMinimum Qualifications & Working ConditionsEducation:High School Diploma or GEDExperience:At least one (1) year of enforcement‑related fieldwork including investigating allegations, conducting research, and resolving complaints, concerns, or conflictsPreferred Qualifications:Colorado Association of Code Enforcement (CACEO) Basic and Advanced CertificationsOC Pepper Spray and RCB certification required to carry device at all levels or obtain within 6 monthsKnowledge:General building, construction &
