Fire Protection Technology/Fire Academy Instructor
Assists in the clinical and/or laboratory setting with the instruction of skills required for the Fire Protection Technology/Fire Academy students. This is a part-time position and can work up to 18 hours per week.
What You WillDo
- Serve as the field training point of contact for fire academy students.
- Texas Commission on Fire Protection (TCFP) training field examiner, which includes maintaining records electronically and physical files per the requirements of Texas Commission on Fire Protection for Student testing records, Equipment mandatory annual tests, Equipment maintenance logs, Fire protective gear rental and maintenance logs.
- Assist with maintaining daily field training operations of the fire academy, including Scheduling, maintenance, and preparation of equipment.
- Assist with maintaining relationships with local partners (Fire Departments).
- Assist other instructors as needed.
- Maintaining personal timesheets.
- Assist with creating and managing skills testing documentation.
- Assist with planning and organizing scenario-based training evolutions.
- Assist with promoting the fire service program and recruiting students through presentations and attendance at career events, fire service conferences, and networking with fire service professionals.
- Meeting all scheduled classes for the full class period.
- Informing students of learning outcomes relating to the skills being observed.
- Motivating students with a professional, responsive, and cordial attitude to perform at their highest level.
Competencies Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Must have independent and creative thinking, and initiative in seeing projects to completion. Evidence of strong organizational skills, as well as oral and written communication skills. Ability to meet goals and work effectively in a "team" environment. Must be able to respect confidentiality, implement problem-solving, and maintain courtesy in dealing with students, faculty, staff, and visitors.
Supervisory Responsibilities Individual Contributor Work Environment: The work environment includes both indoor and outdoor settings, with exposure to machinery noise and regular duties required outside of standard business hours. Physical Demands: Sitting, walking, standing, bending, climbing, typing, carrying, pushing, pulling, kneeling, occasionally lifting (up to 125 lbs.). Travel Required: Yes- Minimal If travel is required, the candidate must have and maintain a current, valid Texas driver's license and an acceptable driving record
Who You Are
Required Education High school diploma or equivalent. Current Texas Commission on Fire Protection licensure or certification as a Basic Structure Firefighter. Current Texas Commission on Fire Protection licensure or certification as a Fire Service Instructor I with Field Examiner endorsement.
Required Experience Minimum of 3 years of experience in the Firefighter or related field. Additional Job-Specific Requirements Must be willing to work flexible hours (may include some evening hours).
