Crime Analyst II
The Village is seeking an innovative, highly motivated, and technologically proficient Crime Analyst II, with preference given to candidates qualifying as a Crime Analyst III, to support the development, implementation, and daily operation of the Police Department's first Real Time Crime Center (RTCC). The ideal candidate will possess strong analytical and problem-solving skills, excellent organizational abilities, and experience working with law enforcement intelligence, crime analysis, public safety technologies, and real-time information systems. This position performs a variety of technical, analytical, and operational duties requiring accuracy, sound judgment, confidentiality, independent decision-making, and regular interaction with police personnel, partner agencies, and community stakeholders. This position requires a highly skilled and self-motivated individual capable of helping build the department's Real Time Crime Center from the ground up, including developing workflows, integrating technology platforms, and establishing operational procedures with limited supervision.
Examples of Duties
Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
- Assist with the startup, implementation, and daily operation of the department's Real Time Crime Center
- Monitor and analyze real-time data sources including live camera feeds, license plate reader systems, CAD/RMS systems, drone operations, social media, open-source intelligence, and criminal intelligence databases
- Provide real-time intelligence and investigative support to patrol officers, supervisors, and command staff during active incidents
- Coordinate with Drone as First Responder (DFR) operators and assist with integrating drone intelligence into field operations
- Develop operational procedures, workflows, and best practices for RTCC operations and technology utilization
- Assist with evaluating, implementing, and optimizing emerging public safety technologies
Crime Analysis & Intelligence Support
- Conduct tactical, strategic, and administrative crime analysis
- Identify crime patterns, trends, hotspots, repeat offenders, and emerging public safety concerns
- Prepare analytical reports, intelligence bulletins, BOLOs, crime trend alerts, and intelligence summaries
- Utilize Geographic Information Systems (GIS), crime mapping software, and data visualization tools
- Support investigations through intelligence gathering, link analysis, timeline analysis, and data research
- Analyze calls for service, arrest data, traffic crash data, and other law enforcement datasets
Collaboration & Operational Support
- Work closely with patrol officers, investigators, command staff, regional task forces, and external law enforcement agencies
- Assist with special events, major incidents, and emergency operations requiring RTCC support
- Participate in meetings related to RTCC development, technology integration, and intelligence-led policing initiatives
- Provide training, guidance, and support to department personnel regarding RTCC capabilities and analytical resources
Administrative Functions
- Maintain accurate records, intelligence files, analytical databases, and operational documentation
- Ensure compliance with department policies, state laws, and criminal intelligence system regulations
- Prepare presentations, statistical summaries, and reports for department leadership and community stakeholders
- Assist with the development of operational procedures, policies, and performance measures for RTCC functions
Minimum Requirements / Qualifications
Education/Experience
- A bachelor's degree is preferred in Criminal Justice, Criminology, Public Administration, Information Systems, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Data Analytics, or a closely related field
- Candidates must possess a minimum of two (2) years of experience in crime analysis, intelligence analysis, law enforcement data analysis, real-time crime center operations, or a closely related analytical field
- Experience with law enforcement databases, records management systems, crime mapping software, analytical tools, and intelligence platforms is preferred
- Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to maintain confidentiality while working with sensitive information are required
Supplemental Information
Preferred Qualifications – Crime Analyst III: Preference may be given to candidates possessing:
- Four (4) or more years of advanced crime analysis, intelligence analysis, or RTCC experience
- Experience assisting with the development, implementation, or operation of a Real Time Crime Center
- Experience with public safety technologies including Flock Safety, Axon Fusus, Motorola Command Central Aware, CAD integration platforms, license plate reader systems, and Drone as First Responder (DFR) operations
- Advanced GIS, crime mapping, and data visualization experience
- Experience in creating intelligence products for real-time operations and investigative support
- Supervisory, project management, program development, or leadership experience
- Professional certifications related to crime analysis, intelligence, GIS, data analytics, or public safety technology
