Job Description
The YMCA of Yonkers is seeking a Security Guard / Member Experience Associate to help maintain a safe, secure, and welcoming environment for members, residents, staff, and guests.
This weekend position serves as the primary licensed security presence at the Welcome Center and throughout the facility while supporting a positive member experience. Working as part of the YMCA's two-person front desk coverage model, this role helps ensure continuous security oversight while supporting smooth and welcoming front desk operations.
The Security Guard / Member Experience Associate plays a vital role in facility safety, incident prevention, access control, and emergency response while promoting the YMCA's commitment to belonging, respect, and community engagement.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required; some college preferred.
- Current New York State Security Guard License required.
- Completion of New York State 8-Hour Pre-Assignment Training required.
- Completion of New York State 16-Hour On-the-Job Training required.
- Minimum one year of security, law enforcement, or related experience preferred.
- Experience working in community-based, nonprofit, or public-access facilities preferred.
- Ability to remain calm, observant, and professional in dynamic environments.
- Strong verbal communication and customer service skills.
- Basic computer proficiency.
- CPR/AED certification preferred or willingness to obtain within 30 days of hire.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
Security & Safety Operations
- Serve as the primary licensed security guard for the YMCA facility.
- Maintain a visible security presence at the Welcome Center and throughout the building.
- Conduct documented security rounds throughout the facility on a regular basis.
- Monitor entrances, exits, program spaces, residential areas, locker rooms, and common areas for safety concerns and policy compliance.
- Ensure access control procedures and secured areas are properly monitored.
- Enforce YMCA policies, membership access requirements, and guest procedures respectfully and consistently.
- Respond promptly to incidents, disturbances, emergencies, and safety concerns.
- Utilize conflict resolution and de-escalation techniques to address challenging situations.
- Coordinate with YMCA leadership and emergency responders when necessary.
- Complete incident reports, security logs, and related documentation accurately and on time.
- Support emergency response procedures including evacuations, medical incidents, and facility lockdowns.
- Provide a professional, welcoming, and respectful presence for members, guests, and visitors.
- Support front desk operations during high-volume periods and special events.
- Assist with member check-in flow, access verification, and facility wayfinding.
- Provide general information regarding YMCA programs, schedules, and facility operations.
- Maintain an organized, professional, and welcoming front desk environment.
- Identify and communicate member concerns, service issues, or safety-related matters to leadership.
- Promote YMCA programs, events, and community initiatives through positive member interactions.
- Support the YMCA's commitment to creating a welcoming and inclusive environment for all.
- Work collaboratively with Member Experience staff, Operations leadership, and YMCA program teams.
- Model the YMCA's core values of Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility in all interactions.
- Support organizational efforts to create a safe, welcoming, and community-focused environment.
