Position OverviewThe Dougherty County Police Department is hiring on a continuous basis for a Patrol Officer. The purpose of this position is to ensure public safety and to enforce local, state, and federal laws. Patrol functions include crime prevention, traffic enforcement, investigation of criminal and civil complaints, response to residential and business alarms, and other duties as assigned.ResponsibilitiesPatrol designated areas, enforce traffic laws, issue traffic citations, investigate traffic accidents, conduct motor vehicle traffic stops, and redirect traffic flow as necessary.Investigate criminal and civil complaints; make arrests when warranted; complete incident and accident reports; complete daily activity sheets.Operate emergency vehicles; use hand‑held and vehicle radio and communication equipment; operate radar equipment.Escort funeral processions and assist citizens with animal‑control complaints.Work rotating shifts and perform related work as assigned.Follow all safety procedures and wear required personal protective equipment.Minimum QualificationsHigh School Diploma or GED equivalent.At least 21 years of age.United States citizen.Certified or eligible to become certified under the Georgia Peace Officer Standards and Training (P.O.S.T.) Act within six months of employment.Clear background investigation.Meet height and weight standards.Pass a job‑valid physical endurance test.Pass drug and/or alcohol screening.Special Certifications and LicensesMaintain a valid state driver's license with an acceptable driving history.Current Georgia P.O.S.T. certification.Physical Demands and HazardsPhysical demands include walking, standing, and exerting up to 10 pounds of force on a regular basis.
