The City of Bend is accepting applications for one (1) regular, full-time Code Enforcement Officer III in the Code Enforcement Division of the Community Development Department. This is an hourly, non-exempt (overtime eligible) position represented by the Cityof Bend Employee Association (COBEA). Join the City of Bend's Code Enforcement program as an Officer III, where you'll work on a wide range of cases with increasing complexity and independence. In this role, you'll be out in the community responding to concerns, conducting inspections, and working collaboratively with property owners to achieve compliance. You'll also have the opportunity to take on more advanced work, including abatements, legal case preparation, and coordination with other City departments.

The ideal candidate for the Code Enforcement Officer III role in the City of Bend is a proactive self-starter who takes initiative and thrives in a dynamic environment. They are a strong communicator, capable of clearly and professionally engaging with a diverse community while maintaining a customer-service mindset that fosters positive relationships and trust. This individual exercises sound judgment in complex or sensitive situations and brings a high level of attention to detail to ensure fair, consistent, and accurate enforcement of codes and regulations. They are adaptable and flexible, able to respond effectively to changing priorities and field conditions and demonstrate confidence in decision-making while remaining approachable and respectful in all interactions. A highly qualified candidate will bring a strong foundation in code enforcement practices, including working knowledge of City Codes and applicable Oregon laws, along with proven experience conducting field inspections and investigating complaints. They demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills, allowing them to clearly document findings, prepare reports, and effectively engage with community members. This individual possesses strong customer service and conflict resolution skills, handling sensitive situations professionally and with respect. They are capable of working independently and maintain a high level of attention to detail in all aspects of their work. Additionally, they have a basic understanding of legal processes, including issuing citations and preparing cases for court, and are able to collaborate effectively with team members and partner departments to support consistent and coordinated enforcement efforts. Candidates who meet the listed minimum qualifications, including an equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered for an interview.
