Summary THIS IS A NATIONAL GUARD TITLE 5 EXCEPTED SERVICE POSITION. This National Guard position is for a SUPERVISORY FIREFIGHTER, Position Description Number T6307000 and is part of the 174TH ATKW, National Guard. This vacancy does not meet the criteria for appointment of annuitants. Veterans' preference does not apply to this vacancy due to internal merit promotion. Responsibilities As a SUPERVISORY FIREFIGHTER ( GS-0081-09), you will serve as a Station Chief responsible for oversight and direction of the day-to-day operations of a fire station with two or more firefighting crews (including a Crew Chief and assigned crew) who drive and operate firefighting vehicles of significant complexity, fight airfield and structural fires, perform crash and rescue operations, and assist in reducing and/or eliminating potential fire hazards. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Must have at least 24 months experience, education, or training in one or more of the following areas: Controlling or extinguishing fires as a member of an organized military, industrial, volunteer, or governmental fire department or brigade; Rescue operations; Detection, reduction, or elimination of potential fire hazards; Operation of fire communications equipment; Controlling hazardous materials incidents; Developing, implementing, or providing training in fire protection and prevention; Firefighting and fire prevention theory and techniques; Fixed and mobile firefighting equipment operation; Planning, directing, or carrying out fire protection and prevention programs and operations and/or; Performing emergency medical services; Must also have experience in managing the function of the work to be performed and experience which includes leading, directing and assigning work of personnel. CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: Required to be certified by the DoD Firefighter Certification System as Airport Firefighter (includes Firefighter I, II), Hazmat Operations (includes Hazmat Awareness), Apparatus Driver Operator- Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting, Apparatus Driver Operator- Pumper. Applicants who meet one of the DoD Priority Placement Program categories below are eligible to apply with this preference. This position meets the criteria for primary/administrative coverage under special retirement coverage provisions in that it requires prior experience in a primary or equivalent outside experience as a prerequisite. The maximum entry age for DoD firefighters is 37. An individual not appointed by the last day of the month in which the individual becomes age 37 will not be originally appointed or assigned to these positions. For exceptions to the maximum entry age, see DoD Instruction 1400.25, Volume 336, January 22, 2015, Incorporating Change 1, December 1, 2017, Enclosure 3, Section 3. Employees in positions, involving firefighting duties or other duties involving arduous physical exertion, may be subject to periodic (e.g., annual) medical examinations following appointment to determine fitness for continued performance of the duties of the position.
