Job Title
The position effort entails training and fleet readiness at intermediate maintenance level, evaluation of explosives safety procedures; technical data review, Ordnance handing assembly/ disassembly procedures, and storage/stowage of various types of explosives. Each member of the team spends approximately 90 days on travel per year completing the tasking. Travel includes domestic and foreign destinations, shipboard underway periods and isolated locations.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide training on specific weapons type assembly, disassembly, and testing (e.g., air launched missile, precision guided weapons, laser guided bomb (LGB), Joint Direct Attack Munitions (JDAM), etc.).
- Provide training and guidance on weapons safety, stowage/storage, equipment maintenance and configuration functions.
- Deliver training on implementation and/or review of Airborne Weapons Changes (AWC) and Airborne Weapons Bulletins (AWB).
- Review various Weapons Technical Publications to ensure the most current, comprehensive information is being properly maintained. If found deficient, submit Technical Publication Deficiency Reports (TPDRs) as required.
- Support OPNAVINST 8023.24 Qualification and Certification program by providing up-to-date Standardized Weapons Training Lectures on various weapons used by United States Navy and Marine Corps units.
- Provide Ammunition Fleet Sentencing training IAW NAVSUP P-805, SWO20-AC-SAF-010, OP4, OP5 and other sentencing publications and Military Standards.
- Instruct students on break out, stowage, inspection, testing, assembly and disassembly of Quick Strike Mines.
- Attend and provide feedback during Ships Installation Assurance Tests (SIAT), Ship's Operability Tests (SOT), Carrier Operability Tests (COT), Yard Walk Through (YWT), Ship's Suitability Tests (SST) and Validation and Verifications (VAL/VER) for newly introduced weapons systems.
Specialized Experience
Performance of this work requires broad technical background, knowledge, skills, and experience in the Navy and Marine Corps aviation ordnance CVN, LHA, LHD, LPD MCAS/MALS/MAWS, NRB, NAF and JRB weapons/ordnance handling equipment, technical manuals, test equipment and inert training devices. Operations rating/military occupational specialty (MOS), to include:
- US Navy/USMC Air Weapons Assembly Experience
- At least one tour in a dedicated Intermediate level maintenance activity.
- Shipboard Aviation Weapons Support Equipment, inspection and configuration criteria.
- Shipboard weapons magazine maintenance criteria.
- Quickstrike Mine Assembly/Disassembly and testing.
- Shipboard Weapons Department Quality Assurance Division Duties & Responsibilities.
Education Requirements
Successful completion of the following courses is required:
- C-122-3111, Air Launched Guided Missile
- C-122-3113, Precision Guided Weapons
- C-646-4106, QUICKSTRIKE Mines
- C-646-4108, Air Launched Weapons Ordnance Supervisor
General Experience
Skills required include Instructor/teaching experience (NEC: 805A/Legacy 9502, or Marine instructor), experience writing technical papers, curriculum development experience (Instructional Systems Design, ISD), computer Based Training (CBT) development and facilitating training in a team environment.
Proficiency in Microsoft-related programs/operating systems (e.g. PowerPoint, Word, Excel, Adobe writer reader) is required.
Candidate must be able to manage multiple tasks at one time; coordinate with other personnel within the command; and develop strategies to optimize task performance, ensure efficiency, achieve accurate data reporting and achieve a high level of customer satisfaction.
Physical Requirements
Candidate must be able to endure prolonged standing, and ascend and descend vertical ladders (e.g., movement between decks on board CVNs may require climbing as many as six eight-foot ladders numerous times during the day). When training is conducted on-board CVNs, candidates will be required to identify medical conditions and prescriptions. Certain medications may restrict /deny access to CVN/shipboard stays (varies from ship to ship, at the discretion the CVN Senior Medical Officer).
Forklift operation: Candidate will be required to have current (or be able to obtain) valid forklift licensing. The type of lifts that will be operated aboard US Navy ships are at Type EE Reaching and Tiering forklift and or a 6k diesel forklift.
SECRET clearance and proof of US Citizenship is required.
The candidate must be fluent in the English language and be eligible to have access to the Navy Marine Corps Intranet (NMCI) and a Common Access Card (CAC) by the government.
