BAILIFF

The court Bailiff will provide security for the courtroom and staff as well as courtroom related functions for arraignments and all municipal court proceedings.

Essential Job Functions

  • Maintain regular and prompt attendance; physically present to work.
  • Performs after hours work as required (nights and weekends)
  • Assist with emergency response as needed by city hall and local EOC.
  • Ensure that anyone entering the courtroom had been "screened" according to established protocols and/or policies.
  • Maintain order and security in the courtroom when court is in session, and notify any possible threat.
  • Assists Municipal Court Judge in documentation court business and other required paperwork.
  • Provide oral and printed information to persons attending court.
  • Confirms arraignment documentation list with municipal jail for judges review.
  • Works as a liaison with the police department law enforcement court security committee member.

Minimum Qualifications & Requirements

  • Must have High School diploma, or equivalent (GED)
  • Three (3) to five (5) years of related work experience to perform such job.
  • An honorably retired peace officer with certification/license.
  • Ability to obtain a court security certification as required by chapter 158 of the Texas Government Code before first year anniversary of filling the position.
  • Applicant must pass pre-employment criminal background check and drug screen at City's expense.
  • Applicant must have current valid Class "C" Driver's License and be insurable.
  • Must successfully complete Emergency Management and Incident Command Training within first three months of hire date.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish Preferred.

  • Proficient oral, interpersonal and written communication.
  • Monitoring
  • Computer literacy.

Working Conditions/Physical Demands

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk.
  • Occasional walking, standing, and stooping.
  • Occasional lifting, moving, or positioning objects up to 30lbs.
