Job Title
Responsibilities:
Responsible for identifying discipline Subject Matter Experts specific to markets and technical experience across all engineering studios and communicating expertise to National Director of Engineering, GPLs and MSLs
Responsible for coordinating with studio Ops Directors and National Director of Engineering on work sharing and recruiting coordination as required
Responsible for identifying engineering business development opportunities across studios such as speaking/publishing opportunities, client outreach, identification of project opportunities, etc.
Responsible for working with National Director of Engineering on setting strategic goals for discipline growth and best practice advancement
Attends client meetings and communicates with clients, consultants, contractors, and others during various stages of project development
Primary point of contact
Performs marketing and business development activities including building relationship with key clients and strategic partners, proposal writing, fee estimates, and client interviews
Travel for marketing and project-related activities will be required
Qualifications:
A minimum of 10 years of professional experience in fire protection engineering or related field.
ABETaccredited degree in Engineering or Architectural Engineering
Registered Professional Engineer required
General Characteristics:
Assists Project Managers with fee development for engineering portions of work
Demonstrated practical knowledge of codes and related industry standards (AOC, GSA, ICC, NARA, NFPA, UFC, USG, VA, etc.).
Demonstrated ability to develop strong client relationships and a substantial revenue base.
Production experience preparing deliverable drawing sets in Revit and AutoCAD required
Solid understanding of relevant software, including FDS, CONTAM, egress modeling software, AutoCAD, Revit, BlueBeam, and the Microsoft Office suite of software
Self-motivated team player with strong interpersonal, communication, writing, and presentation skills
Ability to deal with competing priorities and manage time appropriately
Strong communication skills essential for team-based and team-leading working
Excellent planning and organization skills required for our fast-paced environment, and must be highly motivated, proactive, and willing to take on new challenges.
Experience as an accomplished public speaker.
Understanding of the legal and financial aspects of professional practice, particularly as they relate to fee, risk management, and contract negotiation.
Preferred Qualifications:
Stay knowledgeable of the current National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) standards including the Life Safety Code (101) and national building and fire codes (Uniform, International, etc.).
Evaluate both existing building construction and proposed new building designs and identify fire/life safety deficiencies, necessary fire prevention, protection, detection, and suppression requirements for architectural, mechanical plumbing and electrical designs, as well as design equivalency comparisons.
Demonstrate a high level of competency with stairwell pressurization mechanical systems, atrium smoke control/evacuation mechanical systems, and high-rise building smoke control designs and control sequences for related mechanical systems.
Provide oversight of fire/smoke detection and alarm system designs, including incipient stage smoke detection and alarm systems.
Possess design competency in wet pipe, dry pipe, and pre-action automatic fire sprinkler suppression systems, as well as clean agent total flooding suppression systems (FM200, FE25, Inergen, NOVEC, etc.) and fire alarm/mass notification systems.
Establish basis of design for necessary fire protection systems and prepare complete specifications, technical studies and reports.
Perform hydraulic calculations, select fire protection system equipment, and develop layouts for piping, heads, and nozzles.
Oversee the production of documents as needed to meet project schedules. Provides Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC) reviews for architectural and engineering discipline documents to identify areas of conflict with all disciplines, as well as deficiencies in fire protection engineering design.
Participate in business development activities including new client shortlist interviews, existing client in-progress review meetings, and develop cost proposals for fire protection services.
