Firefighter
This position is responsible for completing required training to acquire the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the duties of a Firefighter. This job is a safety sensitive position that will require a pre-employment drug test and subsequent random drug and alcohol testing in accordance with Barrow County Drug and Alcohol Free Workplace.
MAJOR DUTIES
- Participates in training to obtain the necessary skills, knowledge, and certification to advance to the Firefighter level within the Emergency Services department.
- Completes classroom work; completes required quizzes and tests at a satisfactory level.
- Participates in daily physical fitness and agility activities.
- Participates in live burns, forcible entries, hazardous materials responses, and other training exercises.
- Performs general housekeeping and grounds and maintenance work associated with the maintenance of the training center and the administrative facilities.
- Performs related duties.
KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION
- Knowledge of department policies and procedures.
- Knowledge of current and accepted firefighting practices.
- Knowledge of Georgia Firefighter Standards and Training Council compliance standards.
- Knowledge of departmental and county policies and procedures and related federal, state, and local guidelines.
- Knowledge of county streets and geography.
- Knowledge of computers and job related software programs.
- Skill in the analysis of problems and the development and implementation of solutions.
- Skill in the preparation of clear and precise reports.
- Skill in oral and written communication.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Ability to read, write and perform mathematical calculations at a level commonly associated with the completion of high school or equivalent.
- Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one to two years.
- Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver's license issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
