Job Summary

A leading provider of operational support services is seeking a highly skilled Subject Matter Expert (SME) with strong automotive technical experience, ideally gained in a dealership environment. This role works closely with a curriculum development team and other SMEs to research, develop, validate, and support service technical training courses. A strong focus on diesel engine performance, diagnostics, and repair is essential. The ideal candidate has extensive hands-on diesel experience, advanced diagnostic skills, and the ability to translate complex technical content into effective learning materials.

Key Responsibilities

  • Research, develop, validate, and support service technical training courses in collaboration with a curriculum development team and other SMEs
  • Apply advanced diagnostic skills and hands-on diesel expertise to translate complex technical content into effective learning materials

Required Skills

  • Minimum five (5) years automotive technical experience, including extensive diesel diagnostic and repair work
  • ASE Certified Master Automotive Technician
  • Strong understanding of complex mechanical and electrical systems
  • Advanced diagnostic experience using equipment such as diesel performance tools, OEM scan tools, oscilloscopes, digital multimeters, air conditioning recycling equipment, and vibration diagnostic equipment
  • Ability to work with customers, peers, and curriculum teams in a collaborative environment
  • Intermediate computer skills including use of Microsoft Office and online research
  • Ability to adapt to evolving technologies and project requirements
  • Strong organizational, time-management, and communication skills
  • Technical writing experience
  • Strong working knowledge of diesel engine performance, aftertreatment systems, mechanical systems, and electrical systems
  • Up-to-date understanding of modern diesel technologies and diagnostic strategies
  • Knowledge of adult learning principles and competency-based training approaches
  • Experience with multiple training delivery methods: video, web-based, virtual classroom, and instructor-led hands-on training
  • Ability to navigate and utilize computer software (MS Office, training platforms)
  • Understanding of dealership service environments and technical training center operations
  • Effective verbal communication and public speaking skills
  • Highly motivated, task-driven, and detail-oriented
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills
  • Able to complete work independently with minimal supervision
  • Comfortable managing multiple projects simultaneously
  • Team-focused with strong interpersonal skills
  • Proficient with general automotive tools and advanced diagnostic equipment such as digital multimeters, oscilloscopes, and scan tools

Preferred Skills

  • Experience in developing web-based and hands-on technical training
  • GM dealership technician experience

Education Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Diesel-specific ASE certifications (e.g., A9 Diesel Engine Performance) Required
  • Current ASE certifications A1 through A8 Strongly Preferred
  • Formal automotive or diesel technology training a plus but not required

Required Experience

  • Minimum of five (5) years automotive technician experience, with a strong focus on diesel engine systems, performance, and diagnostics
