NSC Staffing is seeking an experienced Project Manager to oversee ship repair availabilities from the planning phase through completion and vessel redelivery. This position requires in-depth knowledge of both Combatant and Non-Combatant vessels, strong project execution skills, and the ability to manage complex work scopes involving subcontractors, production trades, and government stakeholders.
Position OverviewThe Project Manager is responsible for managing multiple ship repair work items from initial planning through final milestone completion. This role serves as the primary point of contact for assigned work items and ensures schedules, budgets, quality, and safety requirements are met. The Project Manager will coordinate internal departments, subcontractors, and external stakeholders to successfully execute ship repair availabilities.
Key Responsibilities- Manage multiple complex work items throughout the entire project lifecycle.
- Provide schedule updates, cost impact analysis, and status reporting on assigned work items.
- Develop detailed plans, task lists, and work-effort assessments, including short- and long-term impacts.
- Assist the Planning Department with project proposals, job estimates, and schedules.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for assigned work items.
- Assemble, plan, lead, and facilitate cross-functional project team meetings with internal departments, subcontractors, and government representatives.
- Maintain strong professional relationships with Production, Contracts, Subcontracts, Estimating, QA, Safety, Planning, Scheduling, and Engineering teams.
- Coordinate and direct subcontractors and organic trade personnel to meet schedule objectives.
- Identify, assess, and analyze project risks that could impact successful completion.
- Develop mitigation plans and provide resolution options when schedule or production conflicts arise.
- Track and maintain responsibility for project budgets and schedules to ensure work stays on-time and on-schedule.
- Monitor performance under Cost-Type and Fixed-Type contracts.
- Ensure all customer-provided project information is distributed internally and entered into management systems.
- Implement project management tools and processes to support execution.
- Identify scope changes and coordinate with Planning, Estimating, Production, Contracts, and customers to reassess schedules and budgets.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
- Preferred ship repair experience in a public or private shipyard environment.
- Prior U.S. Navy military experience in engineering or a related technical field may qualify.
- Experience managing technical personnel during complex shipboard availabilities.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Microsoft Project, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
- Experience navigating internal data systems and shared server environments.
- Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
- Valid driver's license with reliable, insurable transportation.
- Ability to work nights, weekends, and overtime during peak workloads.
- Willingness to travel and manage out-of-state ship repair availabilities when required.
- Ability to wear required PPE, including respirators.
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Science, or related field preferred OR
- Associate degree plus 2 years of directly related experience OR
- 4 years of directly related experience
- Prior military service, including Service Academy attendance, may be considered equivalent experience.
- Must be a U.S. citizen.
- Ability to gain access to government facilities.
- Ability to obtain a Security Clearance and qualify for CAC or DBIDS badge.
- On-site shipyard and naval vessel environments, including ships and dry docks.
- Ability to climb ladders, work in tanks and confined spaces, and transit all areas of the facility.
- Exposure to dirt, dust, noise, hot/cold temperatures, and industrial conditions.
- Physical activities include climbing, crawling, crouching, kneeling, bending, standing, walking, hearing, and talking.
- Must have good eye/hand coordination and visual acuity for skilled trade and mechanical activities.
- Regular, reliable on-site attendance is required.
