Essential and Marginal Job FunctionsMust demonstrate a high level of teamwork skills by employing effective communication, sharing key information, cooperation, and working collaboratively with all Dispatch, Transportation, and CCRTA employees.Ensure on-time, safe, and professional delivery of service by verifying buses and bus operators' availability.Prepare and record all written reports, records, and other required written documentation completely and accurately and submits/distributes on a timely basis.Manage workforce to ensure Bus Operators are within hourly work limits.Check Bus Operators as to the physical and mental ability to drive, the appearance of uniforms, and grooming.Assign Bus Operators to buses.Dispatch Bus Operators and respond to radio requests for route and schedule assistance.Must learn and be proficient in the use of AVL/CAD dispatch software and other software packages and learn new technologies as they are on board.Must swap out fare canisters from bus fare vaults.Maintain inventory and records for Lost and Found items.Respond to mechanical breakdowns, communicate with Vehicle Maintenance, and suggest solutions to any problems created.Control the Operation building by opening the building, checking bus operators' rooms for cleanliness, and securing the building at night.Prepare checkout sheets.Replenish transfer cassettes for issuance to bus operators the following day; provide route and schedule information to the public.Responsible for minimizing schedule disruptions by promptly responding to bus operator concerns (mechanical, customer, and accidents) and devising workable solutions.Interpret, promote, and ensure Bus Operators' adherence to all CCRTA rules, guidelines, goals, and objectives.Assist in coordinating effective, timely departures from the bus yard (pull-out) and ensuring that all buses and personnel are accounted for and have returned to the bus yard as scheduled (pull-in) and secure premises.Make operational decisions following standard procedures and exercises independent decision-making of a consequential nature.Communicate courteously and appropriately with the public to provide information and deal calmly and efficiently with emergency situations while maintaining safe and orderly service.Work variable shifts and irregular hours and be available for work on short notice in variable weather conditions or for unplanned work schedule adjustments and overtime as required to meet CCRTA goals and objectives.Learn bus and van routes and transit rules and regulations.Maintain confidentiality regarding all CCRTA-related business information and personnel issues.Establish & maintain effective and professional working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.Perform other duties as assigned.QualificationsKnowledge, Abilities & SkillsTraffic regulations and general familiarity with the City and surrounding areas.Maintain an exemplary attendance record.Working knowledge of related hazards and the sound safety precautions and practices utilized throughout the transit industry.Effective administrative, time management, and supervisory skills.Communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing, and understand and follow verbal and written instructions (including two-way radio).Demonstrate problem-solving skills.Comprehend reading a map to learn about City streets and major landmarks.Schedule manpower and equipment efficiently.Comply with CCRTA policies and procedures and local, state, and federal government regulations.Comply with local traffic, DOT, and FTA regulations concerning the operation of CCRTA vehicles and adherence to safety-sensitive positions.Interact courteously and effectively with a diverse internal customer base.Work before, during, or immediately after an emergency as required as part of the CCRTA's Emergency Response Team to provide emergency services to the general public during emergencies.Willingly foster a positive work environment.Maintain a neat, professional appearance and can always communicate effectively, particularly during high-stress periods.Strong Customer Service skills.Bilingual skills in Spanish are preferred.Effective interpersonal skills suitable for effective interaction with the public, superiors, and subordinates.Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word/Excel/PowerPoint/Trapezee/FleetNet and/or similar application(s)).Experience and Training RequirementsAssociate degree in Business or related field.Minimum three (3) years' related experience, preferably in Public Transportation.Must possess a valid Texas Driver's License.Must be at least 18 years of age. Any job offers and continued employment are contingent upon completing and passing a pre-employment job agility evaluation, Department of Transportation physical, drug and alcohol screen, and background investigation with not more than two moving violations or accidents in the past three years, no more than one DWI/DUI in a lifetime, and no DWI/DUI in the past five years.Physical RequirementsStandard physical activity includes, but is not limited to, sitting, standing, and walking activities. Overtime and extended work hours are required. The noise level in the work environment is moderate to high. Essential & marginal functions require the ability to grasp with both hands, twist both wrists, use both arms to push, pull, hold, and carry items, bend, kneel, squat, climb, and twist safely. Work requires the ability to lift up to 50 lbs. periodically.Working ConditionsWorks primarily in a typical, climate‑controlled office environment.
