Peraton is seeking a skilled and innovative Automation Developer SME to design, build, and maintain automation solutions that improve system reliability, testing efficiency, and operational performance across mission-critical programs. This role supports modernization initiatives by developing automated capabilities across testing, deployment, monitoring, and operational workflowsenabling faster, more consistent, and more secure delivery of complex systems. The ideal candidate brings strong development skills, experience with automation frameworks, and the ability to operate in regulated, safety- and compliance-driven environments, including programs aligned with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).
Work Location: 100% on-site in Chantilly, VA.
Duties to include, but not be limited to:
- Design, develop, and maintain automation solutions supporting testing, deployment, and operational workflows.
- Build and enhance automation frameworks and reusable libraries for enterprise systems.
- Develop automated scripts and tools supporting functional, integration, regression, and performance testing.
- Integrate automation into CI/CD and DevSecOps pipelines to support continuous delivery and validation.
- Collaborate with developers, test engineers, and system engineers to ensure automation is aligned with system design and requirements.
- Support defect detection, root cause analysis, and remediation through automation-driven insights.
- Ensure automation solutions comply with security, safety, and federal compliance requirements.
- Troubleshoot and optimize automation performance and reliability.
- Maintain technical documentation, code repositories, and configuration artifacts.
- Support system readiness reviews, certification activities, and audit preparation.
- Continuously evaluate and recommend automation tools, frameworks, and best practices.

Qualifications
Basic Qualifications:
- U.S. Citizenship Required.
- Must have the ability to obtain / maintain a Public Trust clearance.
- Bachelor's degree and 12 years experience or Masters degree and 10 years experience or Associate's degree and 14 years years experience or HS diploma/equivalent and 16 years experience.
- Experienced in software development or automation-focused roles for FAA programs.
- Proficiency in one or more programming or scripting languages such as Python, Java, JavaScript, or similar.
- Experience developing and maintaining automation frameworks and reusable components.
- Hands-on experience integrating automation into CI/CD pipelines.
- Familiarity with Agile or DevSecOps development environments.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience supporting DOT, or other federal aviation systems.
- Familiarity with FAA systems, standards, or compliance-driven testing environments.
- Experience with automation and testing tools such as Selenium, Cypress, Playwright, JUnit, TestNG, or similar frameworks.
- Experience with cloud or hybrid environments (AWS, Azure, or equivalent).
- Knowledge of secure coding practices and compliance frameworks (e.g., NIST, RMF).
- Experience supporting system certification, readiness reviews, or operational deployments.

Target Salary Range
$135,000 - $216,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position. Salary is determined by various factors, including but not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the position, the individual's experience, education, knowledge, skills, and competencies, as well as geographic location and business and contract considerations. Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay.
