REPORTS TO: Maintenance Supervisor
HOURS: 17.5 Hours a Week
CLASSIFICATION: Hourly
TERM OF EMPLOYMENT: 9 Month

FUNCTION

Protect children en route to and from school, assisting pedestrians at crossing points on adjacent roadways during opening and dismissal hours.

QUALIFICATIONS
  1. General knowledge of highway safety and regulations.
  2. Ability to work under minimal supervision.
  3. Ability to relate cordially with people.
  4. Sound physical health; punctuality.
  5. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent may find appropriate and acceptable.
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES
  1. Dress appropriately for the assigned responsibilities, including safety vest.
  2. Know and apply information in TUSD Crossing Guard Manual.
  3. Place and remove warning signs, traffic cones, etc.
  4. Monitor condition of equipment, roadway, etc. Report repair needs.
  5. Be alert at all times for children approaching from all directions.
  6. Instruct children in safety matters and crossing procedures.
  7. Enforce regulations and behavior guidelines.
  8. Monitor traffic; escort pedestrians at assigned crosswalk.
  9. Stay mentally alert; use reasonable measures to prevent an accident and/or improve dangerous situations.
  10. Know the location of nearest phone(s) and personnel to notify in case of accidents
  11. Note and report traffic infractions, deviant behavior, accident conditions
  12. Attend to accident victims as appropriate.
RELATED PHYSICAL DEMANDS
  1. Stooping, bending, turning, reaching, etc. as necessary in performing duties.
  2. Lifting, maneuvering, placing moderate loads.
  3. Standing/working for extended periods of time under variable outdoor weather conditions.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
Hourly. Salary as determined by the Board of Education. Evaluation in accordance with Board policy.
