Traffic Control Assistant

Under general supervision performs work of routine difficulty in controlling vehicular traffic at designated crossing points and controls children in the crossing area; and performs related duties as assigned.

Directs students safely across streets; report incidents or dangerous situations to supervisor.

Give directions and aid citizens as needed.

Aid in traffic control when needed; report any chronically bad driver or vehicular violation to school crossing guard supervisor.

The ability to recognize traffic hazards, make decisions for the control of traffic, and establish and maintain an effective working relationship with school children, parents, school personnel and the general public.

Ability to communicate effectively.

Report student safety infractions.

Assist children in crossing intersections on the way to and from school at assigned times

High School Diploma or equivalent GED, or training and experience will also be considered. Must demonstrate aptitude or competence for assigned responsibilities.

Must have and maintain throughout duration of employment a valid Illinois Driver's License or access to transportation to job sites and be able to respond to a job site within thirty (30) minutes of being notified.
