General Description of Duties
Under the direction of the Community Policing Officer or designee, this position is responsible for performing routine traffic control functions in support of activities of the Police Department. **Please note, this is an alternate position, intended to provide coverage as needed**
Essential Job Functions
- Reports at the beginning and ending of each school day to an assigned intersection; stands in the intersection and holds any traffic at bay while students cross the street.
- Corrects all potential safety concerns or, if necessary, reports to immediate supervisor.
- Reports any accidents or unusual situations to a supervisor.
Qualifications Education and Experience Guidelines
High school diploma or equivalent; and one (1) year of relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Special Qualifications:
- Possession of a valid, State of Florida driver's license to operate a motor vehicle. Requirement exists at the time of hire and as a condition of continued employment.
- Ability to communicate verbally and give directions to individuals and groups of people.
- Ability to make decisions on procedural policies and issues.
- Ability to work various hours during morning and afternoon hours.
- Ability to physically perform the duties and to work in a variety of environmental conditions such as temperature chances and rain.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the public, co-workers, city personnel, and other public or outside agencies.
- Ability to accomplish multiple tasks in an efficient manner.
- Ability to complete assignments accurately and on a timely basis.
- Ability to think and act quickly, calmly, and accurately in emergency situations in accordance with departmental rules and regulations.
- Ability to understand and follow both oral and written instructions.
- Ability to work independently with multiple assignments.
Supplemental Information & ADA Items
ADA COMPLIANCE The work is medium work which requires exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Additionally, the following physical abilities are required:
- Walking: Moving about on foot to accomplish tasks, particularly for long distances or moving from one work site to another.
- Balancing: Maintaining body equilibrium to prevent falling while walking, standing, or crouching on narrow, slippery, or erratically moving surfaces. The amount of balancing exceeds that needed for ordinary locomotion and maintenance of body equilibrium.
- Crawling: Moving about on hands and knees or hands and feet.
- Kneeling: Bending legs at knee to come to a rest on knee or knees.
- Pulling: Using upper extremities to exert force in order to draw, haul or tug objects in a sustained motion.
- Pushing: Using upper extremities to press against something with steady force in order to thrust forward, downward or outward.
- Reaching: Extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction.
- Lifting: Raising objects from a lower to a higher position or moving objects horizontally from position-to-position. Occurs to a considerable degree and requires substantial use of upper extremities and back muscles.
- Manual Dexterity: Picking, pinching, typing, or otherwise working, primarily with fingers rather than with the whole hand as in handling.
- Crouching: Bending the body downward and forward by bending leg and spine.
- Standing or Sitting: Particularly for sustained periods of time.
- Visual Acuity: Including color, depth perception, and field vision.
