General Definition of WorkPerforms protective service work to maintain safety and security within the facility. Provide information to other facilities by email, phone, or written form. Handle complaints, settle disputes, and resolve conflicts between inmates. Ensure all paperwork is correct for new intake and discharges of inmates. Complete knowledge in the RMS system, Dynamic Imaging, Predatory Offender Registration System, radio usage, telephone system, first aid, CPR, and Minnesota Repository of Arrest Photos. Ability to control extremely stressful situations while staying calm. Have intimate understanding of the Use of Force Statute and apply it as appropriate. Work is performed under limited supervision of the Jail Administrator.ResponsibilitiesMaintain safety and security within the 80‑bed jail facility, ensuring all 100+ cameras are monitored and all security equipment is operational.Interact with inmates while conducting wellbeing checks every 25 minutes, documenting activities and incidents precisely, and intervene in physical and non‑physical altercations.Properly file paperwork for Public Defender Applications, Community Connections, PREA, Off‑Site Follow‑Up Care, and Statement of Rights.Complete formal inmate counts, handle inmate movement for STS and Huber Law, update court information in LETG, and conduct cell inspections.Collect bonds and cash bail.Distribute medication and conduct narcotic counts before and after shift.Scan and distribute incoming mail before distribution.Change out laundry bags.Assist the public with video visitation and provide technical support; answer questions about court times, legal processes, and release steps.Contact victims before inmates are released, sending notifications and logging into RMS.Coordinate with agents and departments from other counties and states for collaboration; maintain scheduling with government agencies.Process new adult arrestees, suspects, charges > misdemeanor, and arrested juveniles.Assign classifications, fingerprint detail, inmate number, and uniform sizing.Escort inmate movement within and outside the secure portion of the jail, including medical facilities, mental health appointments, psychiatric hub visits, recreational room, library, med‑call room, and program meetings.Document, inventory, and store personal property inmates bring into the facility.Complete modification and verification paperwork.Verify all POR paperwork.Prepare clothing and hygiene packets for new inmates.Contact Dispatch to inactivate warrants.Assist other shifts as needed.Operate vehicle sally port doors.Review officer paperwork for accuracy (e.g., Pre‑Book, Victim Notification).Complete forms for sentenced inmates with expiration dates.Perform regular cleaning, safety, and sanitation inspections in the facility including cell blocks.Makes evaluations and consults regarding medical needs, evaluate suicidal tendencies, and make arraignments for suicide prevention.Conduct fire evacuation drills.Complete Daily Training Bulletins in Lexipol.Train on Man‑Down scenarios per Department of Corrections guidelines.Conduct electrical inspections of interior lighting.Assist with Drug Court (transferring and escorting inmates).Inspect and document all fire prevention equipment.Count all restraint devices.Attend shift briefings.Review inmate telephone calls and texts through the reliance program.Attend quarterly staff meetings.Assist inmates in accessing professional help (counseling, treatment, therapy).Assist Probation and Pre‑trial Release Officer with U/A's.Perform appropriate duties as assigned.Knowledge, Skills, and AbilitiesThorough knowledge of institutional security rules and procedures; familiarity with modern penology; knowledge of communication systems including two‑way radios; ability to maintain accurate records; familiarity with inmate medical records and data systems; competence with fiscal documentation and inmate accounting; strong interpersonal skills under stressful conditions; ability to multitask; clear verbal communication; familiarity with agency regulations and codes; competence in LCSO Jail policy and procedures; ability to establish effective working relationships.Education and ExperienceMinimum Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent.Preferred Qualifications: Associate's or technical degree in criminal justice, law enforcement, or related field, or equivalent experience.Physical RequirementsOccasional exertion of >100 pounds of force; frequent walking, speaking, hearing, and repetitive hand motions; occasional sitting, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, pushing, pulling, lifting, climbing, or balancing. Requires close and distance vision, hearing, and fine motor skills. Exposure to fumes, electrical shock, and bloodborne pathogens possible. Work is generally in a moderately noisy location.Special RequirementsValid driver's license and ability to drive in Minnesota. Must comply with all federal, state, and departmental laws, policies, and regulations. Must satisfactorily complete pre‑employment psychological evaluation, background check, FBI and MN BCA fingerprinting, and maintain required certifications.Other RequirementsThe incumbent may encounter non‑public data during duties.
