The Department of Public Works (DPW) Meter Reader collects water meter readings from residential and commercial/industrial water customers throughout the Township. The job requires significant walking outside under all types of weather conditions. Readings are collected either manually by recording the numbers on the dials of the face of a water meter located inside a building; or automatically using a handheld device to electronically connect to a “touch pad” mounted on the outside of a building. The job also requires basic knowledge and use of computers to perform simple tasks such as downloading readings at the end of each work day.The DPW Meter Reader is a part-time position working the first two weeks of the month only, Monday through Friday from 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM. The DPW Meter Reader must be available to complete assigned routes during the first two weeks of each month throughout the year.The Charter Township of Plymouth is a municipal corporation. The employees of the Township are required to serve the citizens and customers in a tactful, courteous manner. This position requires the employee to have the ability to establish and maintain professional working relationships with the public. Employees in this position must demonstrate integrity and honesty.Desired Experience, Skills and Abilities18 years of age or olderHigh school graduate or equivalentMust have a valid Drivers' LicenseAbility to drive van and/or truckAbility to operate power vehiclesMust have, and maintain, a clean driving recordMust be able to meet attendance requirements of this position. Normal working hours are 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday through Friday, during the first two weeks of each month.Ability to do continuous walking, standing and bending and exert up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently.Supplemental InformationStarting Rate: $17.00 per hourClassification: Part-Time Position.
