Transit Dispatcher

The City of Fayetteville is currently recruiting for a Transit Dispatcher to schedule and coordinate vehicles and passenger trips; to dispatch vehicles; to provide information to the public and respond to customer questions and complaints; to monitor and respond to calls, including two-way radios and mobile phones; to verify and monitor staff locations; to record service calls; to prepare, prioritize and relay transportation requests, including emergency situations; to participate in a variety of administrative and clerical duties related to assigned area of work; and to perform technical tasks relative to assigned area of responsibility.

Essential duties and responsibilities include assigning and coordinating the work of bus operators, preparing schedules, operating a two-way radio, maintaining employee time sheets, acting as receptionist, providing ticket sales, and providing public transportation and para-transit dispatching and routing services.

Minimum qualifications include any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be experience: two years of increasingly responsible experience in dispatch, transit operations, and/or customer service. Training: equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade. Licensing and certifications: required possession of an appropriate valid driver's license and ability to maintain insurability. Preferred: a valid North Carolina, Class B Commercial Driver's License with Passenger and Airbrake endorsements.

The selection process is anticipated to last approximately 4 - 6 weeks. The process will consist of a panel interview and skills testing which may include Outlook, Customer Service, and Spelling, with the selected candidate being subject to a pre-employment background check, driving history check, and a Department of Transportation (DOT) drug screen.
