Dispatcher
Our client is seeking an experienced Dispatcher to coordinate the daily deployment of crane equipment and field crews throughout San Diego. This role serves as the operational hub, partnering with sales, project management, maintenance, and field teams to ensure equipment, personnel, and logistics are aligned for safe and efficient project execution. Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate the daily dispatch of crane equipment and field crews to meet customer schedules and operational needs.
- Review lift plans and job information to ensure appropriate equipment, rigging, permits, and personnel are assigned.
- Assign qualified crews based on project complexity and experience levels.
- Schedule equipment deliveries, load-outs, and returns.
- Coordinate with Sales, Project Management, Estimating, Maintenance, and Yard Operations to optimize scheduling.
- Anticipate scheduling conflicts and develop contingency plans to minimize operational disruptions.
- Secure transportation permits, equipment certifications, and required inspections.
- Coordinate travel, lodging, and logistics for out-of-town crews.
- Process and maintain employee timesheets, work tickets, inspection logs, and operational documentation.
- Monitor equipment readiness and communicate maintenance concerns.
- Maintain communication with field personnel, customers, and supervisors regarding schedule updates and operational changes.
- Track equipment utilization, crew hours, and operational incidents.
- Supervise and coordinate daily activities of yard personnel.
- Promote and reinforce company safety standards across all operations.
Qualifications Required
- 2+ years of dispatching experience in heavy equipment, crane, rigging, trucking, construction, or a related industry.
- Ability to prioritize multiple tasks in a fast-paced operational environment.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience using dispatching or scheduling software.
- Strong computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office.
- Excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills.
- Ability to adapt quickly to changing schedules, equipment availability, and staffing needs.
Preferred
- Experience dispatching mobile cranes, heavy haul trucking, or rigging equipment.
- Knowledge of crane operations, rigging practices, and transportation logistics.
- Familiarity with crane permitting requirements.
- Understanding of the San Diego construction market.
- Background in logistics or operations coordination.
- Strong resource allocation and scheduling abilities.
Work Environment
- This position is based primarily at the company's San Diego yard and office, with regular interaction in an active heavy equipment environment.
- Frequent use of computers, phones, and radio communication.
- Walking throughout the yard to coordinate operations.
- Ability to work in varying outdoor weather conditions.
- Required PPE when in the yard or on job sites, including hard hat, safety vest, steel-toe boots, and hearing protection.
- Ability to communicate clearly in person, by phone, and over radio systems.
