Job Title Performs administrative and technical support in the office of the Chatham County Board of Elections.Job Description The employee is responsible for a variety of elections day functions as outlined below. * Please note: The Board of Elections submits a list of recommended applicants to the political parties for review. Chief Judges are appointed by Elections Office staff. Pay ranges from $13.50 - $15.00 per hour depending on the position. Election day rates: Pay on election day (only) is a flat amount depending on position. Chief Judges earn $265/day. Party Judges earn $225/day. Election Assistants earn $210/day. NOTE Must have residence in Chatham County, North Carolina.Essential Functions Chief Judge:Contact polling sites to make arrangements for setting up and conducting each election.Contacts the two precinct judges and assistants to confirm their availability to work prior to each election.Coordinates meetings for planning and set-up of polling sites.Pick up voting supplies the day before elections and returns them afterward.Oversee assigned polling location, including making job assignments, ballot inventories, and problem resolution.Party Judge:Works closely with Chief Judges to ensure a successful election.Responsible for conducting the election in the absence of the Chief Judge.Signs off on all documents and serves on a panel to resolve any challenges.Will assist the Chief Judges with setting up and closing the precincts.Will assist with counting of votes and securing the building.Elections Assistant:Responsible for registered voter check-in.Assisting with curbside voting.Provides correct ballots to voters and directs them to the correct voting unit.Serves at the discretion and direction of the Chief Judge.Minimum Qualifications High School diploma or equivalent.Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Organization and attention to detail;Ability to establish effective working relationships with supervisor, the public, and other employees;Ability to communicate effectively with people of varying backgrounds;Ability to learn thorough knowledge of registration and voting procedures and of the maintenance and protection of voting registration lists and records;Ability to solve problems within scope of responsibility;Ability to multi-task;Ability to operate both standard and specialized office and computer equipment;Ability to work in a political environment in a non-partisan manner at all times;Ability to exercise considerable tact and courtesy andAbility to provide excellent customer service.Chatham County is fully committed to equal employment opportunity (EEO) principles and issues this anti-discrimination/EEO compliance clause to support and maintain employee's rights and responsibilities relating to equal employment.
