Position Summary:
Reports to SVP, Liability Claims, managers, and examiners regarding conferences, mediations, trials, and other court appearances. Position requires the candidate to be the face of GNY in the NYC, Long Island and Westchester courts, working closely with defense counsel throughout the litigation process. Communicate effectively with the trial prep team regarding status of case and serve as the "eyes and ears" of management in courtroom during trials.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:- Evaluate case(s) and negotiate with a focus on settlement (coordinating with management and assigned examiner).
- Attend and monitor litigated claims including but not limited to conferences, mediations, and trials.
- Occasionally make settlement calls on pre-suit claims.
- Conduct in depth file reviews, evaluating both damages and liability.
- Document above in file notes in ImageRight.
- Participates in special projects and performs additional duties as required.
- Law Degree preferred, Bachelors required.
- Minimum of 5 years' experience working in a similar role (court appearances, trial attendance, mediations/arbitrations with premise liability) required.
- Knowledge of NY court system.
- Knowledgeable as to premises liability law and understanding/evaluating bodily injury claims/medical records required.
- Excellent negotiation skills.
- Highly skilled in trial preparation
- Case evaluation, monitoring, and reporting trial activity.
- Good knowledge of the law, settlement values, judges, adversaries, defense firms, venues.
- Knowledge of New York State Insurance Department regulations including fair claim standards.
- Ability to travel back and forth between office and court.
The salary range for this role is $74,600 - $136,100. The listed annual salary range posted for this position is subject to change and may vary depending on performance, education, experience, skills, geographic location, travel requirements, demonstrated proficiency in the competencies required for the role and business needs. Base pay is just one component of GNY's total compensation package for employees. Other rewards include eligibility for an annual discretionary bonus based on performance.
