The City of Santa Fe Springs is seeking a highly-motivated individual for the position of Aquatics Coordinator in the Department of Parks & Recreation.

Employment Type : Full-time position represented by the City of Santa Fe Springs City Employees Association.
Work Schedule: Aquatics Coordinator is assigned a Wednesday-Sunday work schedule during peak seasons, with flexible hours based on operational needs. The incumbent may be required to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as necessary.

POSITION PURPOSE:
Under general supervision, plans, coordinates, supervises, and participates in the operation of the City's Aquatic Center. Oversees aquatic programs, facility operations, staff supervision, customer service, risk management, and regulatory compliance to ensure a safe, efficient, and high-quality aquatic environment. Provides leadership in the recruitment, training, certification, scheduling, and professional development of aquatic staff.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED:
Receives general supervision from the Community Services Program Coordinator II and/or Community Services Supervisor.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED:
Provides direct supervision to Instructor Lifeguard III, II, and I staff; assigns, schedules, trains, supervises, and evaluates assigned personnel.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
A. Held in Common:

B. Essential Job Specific Duties:
Monitors and supports the delivery of aquatic programs, including swim lessons, recreational swim, lap swim, aquatic fitness, facility rentals, special events, and related activities.Serves as the lead aquatic staff member during assigned shifts, providing direction and ensuring quality customer service.Provides support with the recruitment, onboarding, scheduling, certification, evaluation, and professional development of aquatic staff.Coordinates and oversees front desk operations, including admissions, retail sales, cash handling, customer service, opening and closing procedures, daily cash reconciliation, and front desk staff training.Performs lifeguard duties as needed, including responding to aquatic emergencies, administering first aid and CPR/AED, enforcing preventative safety rules, and ensuring a safe environment for all patrons.Instructs swim lessons, water exercise classes, and other aquatic programs as needed while promoting water safety and skill development.Oversees concession operations, including sanitation, food handling, ordering, inventory control, and cash handling procedures.Oversees the operation of pools, concessions, and related amenities while ensuring compliance with applicable health and safety regulations.Conducts facility inspections; monitors water quality, equipment, and operational readiness; and coordinates corrective action as needed.Enforces facility rules, emergency action plans, and operating procedures to maintain a safe environment for patrons and staff.Ensures compliance with County Health Department, Title 22, OSHA, American Red Cross, and other applicable regulations.Responds to operational issues, customer concerns, and emergencies using sound judgment and established procedures.Maintains required staff certifications, operational records, and reports.Assists in the development, implementation, and planning of special events.
C.Other Job Specific Duties:
Assists in planning, promoting, evaluating, and improving aquatic programs and services.Assist with staff schedules and maintains appropriate staffing levels.Coordinates preventive maintenance and repairs with maintenance staff and vendors.Monitors inventory of aquatic, instructional, concession, and operational supplies; assists with purchasing as needed.Reviews incidents and accidents, prepares reports, and recommends corrective actions.Administers first aid, CPR, AED, oxygen, and emergency care as required.Performs related duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
The following requirements generally demonstrate possession of the minimum requisite knowledge and ability necessary to perform the duties of the position. A typical way to obtain these would be:

• High school diploma or equivalent and sixty (60) semester units from an accredited college or university, plus three (3) years of progressively responsible aquatic facility operations experience, including at least one (1) year of supervisory experience.
• A bachelor's degree in Recreation, Public Administration, Physical Education, Kinesiology, or a related field is highly desirable.
• Valid California driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
• American Red Cross Lifeguarding, CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers and First Aid, Water Safety Instructor (WSI), and Lifeguard Instructor (LGI) certifications.
• California Food Handler Card or ability to obtain within six (6) months.

Highly Desirable:

• Certified Pool Operator (CPO) or Aquatic Facility Operator (AFO).
• Water Safety Instructor Trainer (WSIT).
• Lifeguard Instructor Trainer (LGIT).

NEPOTISM POLICY:
Relatives may be appointed regardless of the designation of full or part-time classification.
