Office Support I - Transportation Dispatch Ford Community and Performing Arts Center - Dearborn, MI 48126 Start Date 07/31/2026 End Date 08/31/2026Overview Salary Range $15.00 Hourly Position Type Part TimeDescription HOURS: Approximately 25 hours per weekGENERAL DESCRIPTION:The employee receives calls for transportation from the public, schedules appointments, and provides information. The employee also calls senior citizens and reminds them of their scheduled appointments. The work is generally sedentary, with employees remaining on the premises throughout an assigned shift. This work involves the operation of communication equipment, including computers and telephones.The department operates Monday through Friday and is located in the Ford Community and Performing Arts Center. The employee will work an average of 25 hours per week year-round and may be asked to fill in for other employees on occasion.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: (Must be able to perform the following with or without reasonable accommodation).Receives telephone calls, schedules appointments, and dispatches the SMART van.Communicates effectively with callers.Operates a computer dispatch system using keyboard device in order to dispatch.Demonstrates regular and predictable attendanceKNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:Ability to perform functions efficiently and effectively while maintaining an appropriate level of professionalism.Ability to learn the general geography, principal landmarks, major building and streets of the City, as well as the locations of City departments, their services, and personnel as required.Keyboarding ability as necessary to the operation of a computer dispatch system.Ability to exercise sound judgment and problem-solving skills in responding to situations and notifying the proper authorities in a timely manner.Effective verbal communication and interpersonal skills, and a demonstrated ability to work effectively with the public, including senior citizens and the disabled.Prior experience with senior citizens and transportation services preferred.Ability to speak Arabic is a plus.Qualifications NECESSARY SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS:Must submit to a criminal history check (including sex offender registry if applicable) and drug screen.
