Hiring Ranges:
Assistant: $6,678 - $7,346
Associate: $7,378 - $8,116
Associate Civil: $8,569 - $9,426
The ideal candidate:
- Demonstrates knowledge of civil engineering principles related to roads, bridges, culverts, and public infrastructure.
- Skilled in preparing and reviewing engineering plans, specifications, cost estimates, and technical reports.
- Effectively manages projects, priorities, schedules, and consultant or construction contracts.
- Applies sound judgment when reviewing plans, inspecting projects, and resolving technical issues.
- Communicates technical information clearly and professionally with contractors, consultants, colleagues, and the public.
- Collects, analyzes, and presents data to support informed engineering decisions.
- Works collaboratively while also exercising initiative and independence.
- Demonstrates a commitment to accuracy, quality, safety, and responsive public service.
- Motivated to develop professionally and advance through increasing levels of engineering responsibility.

Qualifications
The minimum and preferred requirements are listed below. Education and Experience:
- Assistant Engineer:
- MINIMUM: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college with major coursework in civil engineering or related field or foreign or non-US college Bachelor’s degree in related field with an evaluation of the educational units from a United States accredited college or an approved agency verifying coursework is equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or related field and two (2) years of technical engineering experience in the United States.
- PREFERRED:In addition to the minimum, possession of a California Engineer-In-Training (EIT) Certificate and up to two (2) years of additional engineering experience.
- MINIMUM: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college with major coursework in civil engineering or related field or foreign or non-US college Bachelor’s degree in related field with an evaluation of the educational units from a United States accredited college or an approved agency verifying coursework is equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or related field and two (2) years of technical engineering experience in the United States.

- PREFERRED:In addition to the minimum, Master’s degree in Civil Engineering and three (3) years of civil engineering experience in a public agency setting.
- MINIMUM: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college in Civil Engineering, Surveying or closely related field and two (2) years professional engineering experience.
- The ability to obtain a valid California Class C driver's license within ten (10) days of employment; maintain throughout employment.
- Associate Civil Engineer: Possess registration as a Civil Engineer in the State of California.
Special Requirements:
- Must successfully complete an extensive and thorough background investigation, which may include Live Scan fingerprinting prior to hire.
- DMV printout prior to hire.
- Will be required to perform disaster service activities pursuant to Government Code 3100-3109.
