Summary
Dispatcher
The job of Dispatcher is done for the purpose of providing support to the educational process with specific responsibilities for designating vehicles; developing routes; processing service requests pertaining to routine and emergency maintenance issues; maintaining department records in accordance with mandated requirements; and coordinating assigned projects.
Essential Functions:
- Compiles a variety of data for the purpose of developing formal reports, conveying information and complying with mandated requirements.
- Coordinates with District personnel in developing routes and schedules for the purpose of determining driver and equipment requirements.
- Distributes bus keys for the purpose of ensuring keys are secure and used by authorized personnel only.
- Informs school personnel and parents of practices for the purpose of providing information for their follow-up action.
- Participates in unit meetings, in-service training, workshops, etc. as required for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform job functions.
- Performs functions of a school bus driver for the purpose of meeting the district's transportation service needs.
- Processes a variety of materials for the purpose of updating and distributing information, authorizing action and/or complying with mandated requirements.
- Responds to inquiries from students, parents, and/or staff for the purpose of providing the necessary information regarding transportation services.
- Responds to injuries and/or accidents for the purpose of complying with established policies and regulatory guidelines.
- Routes and/or reroutes busses for the purpose of ensuring safe and efficient transportation for students.
- Schedules work assignments for the purpose of ensuring completion of transportation routes and trips in a timely manner.
- Secures substitute drivers for the purpose of ensuring all routes are covered.
Other Functions:
Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
Skills are required to perform multiple tasks with a need to occasionally upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skill based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: operating two way radio and county emergency radio; operating standard office equipment including utilizing pertinent software applications; performing standard clerical procedures; preparing and maintaining accurate records; and using business telephone etiquette.
Knowledge is required to perform basic math, including calculations using fractions, percents, and/or ratios; understand written procedures, write routine documents, and speak clearly; and solve practical problems. Specific knowledge based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: pertinent department policies and procedures; office practices and procedures; and concepts of grammar and punctuation.
Ability is required to schedule a number of activities, meetings, and/or events; gather, collate, and/or classify data; and consider a number of factors when using equipment. Flexibility is required to work with others in a variety of circumstances; work with data utilizing specific, defined processes; and operate equipment using a variety of standardized methods. Ability is also required to work with a wide diversity of individuals; work with similar types of data; and utilize job-related equipment. Problem solving is required to analyze issues and create action plans. Problem solving with data requires independent interpretation of guidelines; and problem solving with equipment is limited. Specific ability based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: adapting to changing work priorities; meeting deadlines and schedules; setting priorities; working with detailed information/data; working with frequent interruptions; and communicating with persons of diverse backgrounds.
Responsibilities include: working under limited supervision following standardized practices and/or methods; leading, guiding, and/or coordinating others; operating within a defined budget. Utilization of some resources from other work units may be required to perform the job's functions. There is some opportunity to impact the organization's services.
Working Environment:
The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 80% sitting, 10% walking, and 10% standing. The job is performed in some varying atmospheric conditions.
Experience:
Job related experience is required. Education High school diploma or equivalent.
