Summary
Dispatcher
The Dispatcher will coordinate driver assignments and activities to ensure proper distribution service to our customers. Escalate issues whenever there are risks to proper service.
As a Dispatcher, you will coordinate driver assignments and daily transportation activities to help ensure safe, efficient, and on-time deliveries. Responsibilities include:
- Coordinate driver activities and shuttle assignments to minimize service interruptions, overtime, downtime, and Hours of Service violations.
- Monitor attendance and verify proper use of Omnitracs and other transportation systems.
- Respond to transportation issues and customer service concerns by coordinating solutions and escalating service failures when appropriate.
- Reassign delivery routes as needed to support daily operations.
- Coordinate tractor, trailer, and backhaul assignments to maximize fleet utilization.
- Verify drivers are properly logged into Proof of Delivery systems before dispatch.
- Perform visual inspections to confirm drivers are in proper uniform and wearing required PPE.
- Notify Transportation Management and Safety personnel of vehicle accidents, injuries, or other safety-related incidents.
- Communicate with drivers, warehouse associates, sales, and leadership to support daily transportation operations.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Work Environment:
- Combination of office and warehouse environments.
- Frequent interaction with transportation operations and delivery drivers.
- Occasional exposure to cooler and freezer environments with temperatures as low as -5F.
What You Bring to the Table:
Education
- High School Diploma or GED required.
Related Experience
- Minimum one year of transportation, dispatch, logistics, or related experience required.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent customer service and telephone communication abilities.
- Strong organizational and analytical skills with attention to detail.
- Basic computer proficiency including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and related transportation software.
- Ability to prioritize multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to solve transportation and routing issues while working collaboratively with multiple departments.
- Strong teamwork and interpersonal skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous dispatch experience preferred.
- Knowledge of DOT Hours of Service regulations and driver logs.
- Familiarity with local delivery routes and geographic service area preferred.
Compensation depends on relevant experience and/or education, specific skills, function, geographic location, and other factors as applicable by law. The expected base rate for this role is between $17.00 and $25.00 per hour. This role may also receive overtime compensation, as applicable.
