The City of Lenexa is currently hiring for a full time Animal Control Officer I in our Police Department The Lenexa Police Department hires highly motivated men and women who enjoy working with the public and delivering the highest level of professional police services We are an agency with an exceptional reputation and have been identified as a nation wide leader in the law enforcement community We strongly believe in providing our employees with opportunities for both professional and personal development At the City of Lenexa our employees are dedicated to the Citys core values integrity service teamwork dedication vision and caringPosition Summary This civilian position involves protecting persons and property from stray wild and dangerous animals by responding to calls for service securing animals enforcing ordinances and resolving issues involving violations and complaintsEssential Functions Responds to and investigates complaints and reported bite cases involving stray wild or unrestrained animalsCaptures and impounds animals as necessary and identifies contacts ownersTalks to owners and attempts to resolve problemsIssues citations if necessaryPrepares reportsEuthanizes injured or sick animals and disposes of carcassesPicks up and disposes of dead animals from citizens and streetsConducts general vehicular patrol of the City for animal control purposesEducates the public about responsible animal careDrives City owned vehicle to perform essential functions of positionQualifications Minimum: High school diploma or GEDMust possess and maintain a valid driver's licenseEnvironment and Physical Factors This position requires good physical condition including the ability and endurance to sprint lift crawl climb etc to respond effectively to calls for service capture domestic and wild animals as well as perform all duties required; the ability to work in extreme weather conditions; the ability to sit and stand for prolonged periods; must have 2040 visual acuity or correctable and adequate night vision to read addresses license tags and gather evidence; must have good olfactory sensory capability; the ability to hear in both ears sufficient to hear radio communications detect sounds and gather information related to animal control activityCompensation and Benefits Starting rate of pay is 2102 to 2437 per hour dependent on minimum qualifications and directly related experienceLow cost premiums for medical dental and vision insurance4 employer retirement contribution with optional 2 matchFree or low cost on site medical clinic10 paid holidays per yearMinimum 2 weeks of vacation during first yearPaid sick leave and personal leave bonus personal leave during first yearSix weeks of paid parental leaveCity paid short term and long term disability planTuition reimbursement up to 4500 per yearFree membership to the Lenexa Rec CenterHiring Process To qualify applicants must also be able to pass an oral board interview board a polygraph examination an extensive background investigation psychological and medical screenings including a pre employment drug testAs an equal opportunity employer the City of Lenexa strives to treat all employees fairly with consistency and respect while providing a positive challenging and rewarding work environmentWe value and encourage diversity in our workplace#J-18808-Ljbffr
