Job Description

Job Summary

Under general supervision, the Senior Services Cook/Driver prepares and serves meals for clients at the Mono County Senior Center in Walker while maintaining a clean, safe, and sanitary kitchen environment. This position prepares food according to established menus, manages food and supply inventories, maintains accurate records, and ensures meals are properly stored and maintained at appropriate temperatures. The position also provides community meal delivery and transportation for senior citizens to medical appointments and other services. This is a hands-on role that combines food service, customer service, and community support to help ensure local seniors have access to nutritious meals and essential services.

Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate is an experienced food service professional who takes pride in preparing nutritious, high-quality meals and creating a welcoming environment for senior community members. The successful candidate will be organized, dependable, safety-conscious, and comfortable working independently with minimal supervision. Strong candidates will have experience preparing food in larger quantities, maintaining food inventories and records, following and adjusting recipes, and adhering to food safety and sanitation standards. Because the position also involves transporting meals and senior citizens, the ideal candidate will be a safe and responsible driver with good judgment, patience, and a genuine interest in providing compassionate service to older adults. The ability to build positive relationships with clients, coworkers, volunteers, and community members is essential.

Department Overview
Mono County Health and Human Services supports the health, independence, and quality of life of older adults throughout the community. Through senior centers, nutrition services, transportation, and other supportive programs, Health and Human Services helps connect older adults with nutritious meals, essential services, and opportunities to remain active and engaged in their communities. This position plays an important direct-service role by helping prepare and deliver meals and providing transportation assistance to seniors who may rely on these services to meet their daily needs. Working with the Senior Center offers an opportunity to make a meaningful, day-to-day impact on the lives of Mono County's older residents while being part of a community-focused team.

Additional Information

Training and Experience:
Any combination of training and experience which would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required knowledge and abilities would be: One year of previous work experience in quantity food preparation.

Special Requirements:
Possession of a valid driver’s license.
Possession of a valid Food Safety Certification, or the ability to obtain such within 12 months of hire.

TYPICAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Sit for extended periods; frequently stand and walk; stoop, kneel, and crouch to pick up or move objects and kitchen equipment; physical ability to lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 lbs. without assistance; normal manual dexterity and eye-hand coordination; corrected hearing and vision to normal range; verbal communication; uses ovens, steamers, mixers, slicers, choppers, steam tables, and food transporters; use of office equipment, including computer, telephone, calculator, copiers, and FAX, safely drive a vehicle for delivery of food.
TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS
Work is performed in a kitchen and office environment; exposure to heat and electrical energy; work is performed in an environment with constant noise; work is performed around equipment with moving parts; some exposure to chemicals, cleaning solutions, and bleaches; regular exposure to moisture and wetness; work requires driving in various weather conditions; continuous contact with other staff and the public.
