Police Officers perform a variety of law enforcement duties, including responding to emergency and non-emergency calls for service, conducting traffic enforcement, and performing routine patrols to deter and detect criminal activity. Daily tasks include investigating crimes and incidents, collecting and preserving evidence, preparing clear and accurate reports, and testifying in court as needed. Police Officers work closely with community members, businesses, and partner agencies to build trust, support crime prevention efforts, and promote public safety. The role requires adherence to departmental policies, laws, and regulations, participation in ongoing training, and the ability to work shifts, weekends, holidays, and overtime as operational needs require.
Qualifications
Strong foundation in law enforcement practices, including Law Enforcement and Police duties.
Ability to conduct thorough Criminal Investigations and manage Evidence in accordance with legal and departmental standards.
Completion of state-required police academy training or ability to meet eligibility requirements for entry into accredited law enforcement training programs.
High school diploma or equivalent; post-secondary education in criminal justice or related field is beneficial.
Ability to meet physical fitness standards and safely perform the essential functions of a Police Officer, including operating vehicles and equipment.
Excellent judgment, integrity, and ethical decision-making, with strong problem-solving and conflict-resolution skills.
Effective verbal and written communication skills, including report writing and community engagement.
Capability to work in a structured, team-oriented environment and maintain composure under stress.
Valid driver's license with a good driving record and ability to pass comprehensive background, psychological, medical, and drug screenings as required.
PAY AND BENEFITS:
Entry level officers start at a base wage of $102,516 per year.
Second year officers have a base wage of $112,260 per year.
Third year officers have a base wage of $134,364 per year.
Pay increases with longevity, college incentive pay and additional opportunities as noted below.
