Job Description: Company Description The Dale City Volunteer Fire Department (DCVFD), founded in 1967 by the Dale City Civic Association, is a highly active fire and rescue organization staffed by approximately 250 volunteers. DCVFD members contribute more than 2,500 volunteer hours each week, making it one of the busiest volunteer fire departments in Virginia with around 20,000 runs per year. The department serves the growing suburban community of Dale City, Virginia, located about 25 miles south of Washington, DC, and home to roughly 75,000 residents and numerous commercial areas. Volunteers respond to fire and medical emergencies throughout Dale City, including Potomac Mills Mall and portions of I-95, and also support surrounding communities through mutual aid agreements. Role Description The Volunteer Firefighter/EMS role is a community service position responsible for responding to fire, medical, and rescue emergencies in Dale City and surrounding areas. Day-to-day activities include participating in emergency calls, providing basic life support and first aid, operating firefighting and EMS equipment under supervision, and assisting with fire suppression, search and rescue, and scene safety. Volunteers also attend training sessions, drills, and continuing education to maintain readiness and compliance with department standards, and support station duties such as equipment checks, cleaning, and restocking supplies. This is a volunteer, hybrid role based in Dale City, VA, where in-person response and training are essential, but some administrative tasks, online training, and meeting participation may be completed from home.
Qualifications

Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting, carrying equipment, climbing, and working in high-stress emergency environments.
Strong teamwork and communication skills, with the ability to follow instructions, collaborate with diverse crews, and interact respectfully with community members.
Commitment to regular training, drills, and continuing education in firefighting, emergency medical services, safety procedures, and departmental protocols.
Sound judgment, situational awareness, and the ability to remain calm, focused, and safety-conscious during emergencies.
Reliable transportation to attend in-person training and station duties in Dale City, VA.
Willingness to comply with all DCVFD policies, including background checks, medical evaluations, and required certifications (such as Firefighter and EMT, as applicable).
Basic computer skills for completing online training, maintaining records, and participating in virtual meetings or administrative tasks from home.
Prior emergency services experience or related training is helpful but not required; comprehensive training is available for motivated volunteers.
