Lead Dispatcher Reports To: Director of TransportationDepartment: TransportationWage/Hour Status: Non-ExemptDate Revised: 1/17/2024Primary Purpose: Support transportation operations by being the first line of contact for all incoming phone calls and directing calls accordingly. Coordinate assignments and schedules of bus drivers, routes and vehicles to ensure safe, efficient and economical transportation services. Manages all transportation related emergency calls including accidents.Qualifications: Education/Certification: High School Diploma or GED, preferred but not requiredClear and valid Commercial Driver's License-Class A or B with P&S EndorsementsSuccessful completion of behind-the-wheel trainingSuccessful completion of 20 hr. Texas Department of Public Safety Certification CourseTexas Association for Pupil Transportation Specialist Professional Certification, preferred but not requiredSpecial Knowledge/Skills: Demonstrate ability to remain calm and professional in an environment with frequent interruptionsAbility to interact with a diverse group of individuals in a courteous and tactful manner, establish and maintain effective working relationshipsAbility to handle problems and stressful situations tactfully and apply proactive problem-solving skillsAbility to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating instructions and procedure manualsAbility to use routing computer software to obtain student transportation information as neededAbility to appropriately communicate with students, teachers, parents and members of the communityAbility to work evenings or weekends as neededAbility to operate a school busAbility to pass DOT physical examination by an appropriate health professional designated by the districtAbility to pass administered drug and alcohol testsAbility to have clearance on criminal history checkAbility to have acceptable referencesAbility to have an acceptable driving recordProficient in Microsoft office applications such as: Excel, Word, Powerpoint, etcAbility to use Google Drive, Google Docs and Google SpreadsheetsExperience: 3 to 5 years experience driving a school bus2 years experience driving for Splendora ISDPrevious dispatch experiencePrevious secretarial experienceMust be at least 21 years of ageMajor Responsibilities and Duties: Dispatch drivers and communicate with them using a telephone or two-radioNotify drivers, parents and school personnel of any changes in a student's bus serviceCommunicate with students, parents, staff and community about their complaints with drivers, buses, routes and safety concernsCommunicate with parents or campus staff bus route information such as; bus stop locations, times of pick up and drop off times and route numbersReceive incoming calls, field inquiries and/or direct to appropriate staffAnswer general questions and requests that fall within the level of responsibilityWelcome all visitors and maintain effective rapport with general public and handle any concerns or complaint in a prompt courteous mannerPrepare correspondence, memorandums, requisitions and reports for transportationMaintain physical and electronic department filesPerform routine office tasks, including emailing, copying, printing and scanning documentsParticipate in meetingsWrite, schedule and keep daily logs of activityHave established and maintain regular and reliable attendance and punctuality recordsMaintain confidentiality at all timesStay up to date professionally through the selection of quality staff development opportunities for professional growthParticipate as an effective team member who contributes to district, department and content goalsDemonstrate integrity and ethicsUtilize time wisely for effective management of job responsibilitiesMaintain punctuality in daily work times, appointments and meetingsMeet task completion deadlines established by directorMaintain friendly customer-service-driven interactions with all stakeholders, students, teachers, administrators and co-workersWork cooperatively with co-workers and supervisors to ensure that the Splendora ISD mission, vision, core principles and learner profile are metMaintain a positive and professional tone in all communication (email, written or verbal)Drive any bus route at anytime neededDrive white fleet bus routes or aide on a special needs route at anytime neededPerform other duties and accept other responsibilities as assignedSupervisory Responsibilities: NoneMental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors: Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment including computer and peripherals; two-way radio, safety equipment including but not limited to flare, reflective signs and fire extinguishersPosture: Frequent standing; frequent kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling and twisting; work in tiring and uncomfortable positions.Motion: Frequent walking; frequent climbing, grasping/squeezing, wrist flexion/extension and overhead reaching; frequent driving.Lifting: Heavy lifting and carrying (45 pounds and over) on a daily basis.Environment: Work outside and inside, on slippery or uneven walking surfaces; frequent exposure to extreme hot and cold temperatures, dust, toxic chemicals and materials, noise, vibration and electrical hazards; may work in tight or enclosed spaces; may work alone; regularly work irregular hours; occasional prolonged hours.Mental Demands: Maintain emotional control under stress.
