Summary
Political & Advance Assistant
Abdul for Senate is seeking a dedicated and organized individual to serve as a Political & Advance Assistant as soon as possible through August 5, 2026. The ideal candidate is passionate about electing Abdul El-Sayed as Michigan's next U.S. Senator and thrives in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment. This role combines political outreach and engagement with event advance work and logistics. This is a full-time position.
Responsibilities:
Political (60%)
- Assist outreach to community leaders, elected officials, political organizations, and labor unions across Michigan (minimum 20 hours per week).
- Prepare and assist with the candidate's political call-time, including organizing call-time lists and supporting follow-up.
- Provide support with endorsement processes with organizations and labor unions, including drafting candidate questionnaires and managing communications with stakeholders.
- Assist with engaging the campaign's network of endorsing organizations, community leaders, elected officials, and labor unions.
- Other campaign-related duties as assigned.
Advance (40%)
- Assist in coordinating team members to help ensure tasks, timing, and messaging remain aligned.
- Support event logistics, including tasks such as venue reservations, walkthroughs, stakeholder coordination, and interdepartmental communication.
- Use and track both qualitative and quantitative data regarding events (such as event totals, types, and endorsements) to inform campaign strategy and reporting.
- Other campaign needs as required
Qualifications (Required):
- Familiarity with or interest in building relationships with political and community leaders in Michigan.
- Ability to balance multiple priorities and stay organized in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience or strong interest in event logistics, coordination, or advance work.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Must have transportation to attend events as needed
- Proficiency with Excel and Google Drive
- Willingness to work irregular hours, including some nights and weekends.
- Superior written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to learn new skills and take on new challenges, with a desire to learn and a willingness to ask questions
- Ability to balance between competing priorities in a fast-paced, demanding environment while maintaining exceptional organization and attention to detail
- Commitment to electing Abdul El-Sayed to the U.S. Senate
- Ability to demonstrate multicultural competence – the awareness, knowledge, and skills needed to work with others who are culturally different from oneself in meaningful, relevant, and productive ways
- Personal and professional commitment to promoting and investing in cross-cultural skills and awareness related to individuals from broad backgrounds, races, ethnicities, religions, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, and disability
Qualifications (Preferred):
- Experience supporting political campaigns, community relations, or event coordination in Michigan is preferred.
- Experience directly managing/staffing a principal is a significant plus
- Previous experience working in Michigan is a significant plus
