Summary

Site Safety & Health Officer (SSHO)

SSHOs are responsible for the overall safety culture on the project. These personnel are the front lines from ensuring everyone is working safely and makes it home in one piece. This role is a vital role onsite to establish and implement a safe work culture throughout the worksite.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities

  • Conduct personnel and equipment inspections daily
  • Conduct safety orientations and meetings with personnel at the jobsite
  • Conduct mishap investigations
  • Maintain applicable safety reference material at the jobsite
  • Attend pre-construction conference, pre-work meetings, and three phase inspection meetings
  • Implement and enforce APP, AHAs and EM 385-1-1
  • Ensure subcontractor compliance of safety requirements
  • Remove personnel not wearing proper PPE or are a safety risk.

Education/Experience Requirements

  • Experience working on USACE, CE, NAVFAC, and/or other Federal construction projects with at least 5 years' experience as a Safety Supervisor with updated continued education per the EM 385-1-1.
  • Must have 10 years of documented experience working on commercial and/or industrial projects as an SSHO
  • Must have experience with government projects.
  • Completion of the 30-hour OSHA course Additional 40 hours of training beyond the 30-hour OSHA course. 8 hours of continued education per year for a total of 5 years.
  • Experience in developing, reviewing, and implementing Accident Prevention Plans, and current EM385-1-1.
  • Valid First Aid / CPR certification
