Summary

The Village of Montgomery is seeking a detail-oriented, community-focused Code Enforcement Officer to join our Community Development Department. This role plays a key part in maintaining the safety, appearance, and quality of life within the Village by enforcing local ordinances and property maintenance standards. This position requires a strong communicator who can balance technical inspection work with professional, customer service driven interactions.

The ideal candidate will:

  • Possess a high school diploma or equivalent; coursework in building/property maintenance codes preferred.
  • Have one to three years of experience in code enforcement, building maintenance, or a related field.
  • Demonstrate the ability to read, interpret, and explain laws, ordinances, and regulations.
  • Have strong verbal and written communication skills and the ability to tactfully enforce regulations and diffuse confrontational situations.
  • Be able to inspect sites, document violations clearly, and utilize detection and measurement tools.
  • Be able to obtain the International Code Council (ICC) Property Maintenance Code Certification within one year of employment.
  • Desire to grow in their career and obtain additional ICC certifications for residential and commercial building inspection.

This is a full-time position. Regular work hours are Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

The starting pay for this position is $27.50 per hour.
