Summary

SUMMARY:Responsible for overseeing the Youth Diversion Program, providing court security, serving municipal warrants, and fulfilling the duties of a Police Officer for the City of Aransas Pass, including enforcing federal, state, and city laws.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:The officer will oversee the Youth Diversion Program and ensure compliance with HB 3186, including conducting home and school visits. The officer will serve as the Court Security Officer for the Aransas Pass Municipal Court, conducting threat assessments, performing bailiff duties, transporting prisoners, and ensuring the safety and security of court proceedings.The officer is expected to proactively identify and locate individuals with outstanding municipal warrants and assist the court with resolving pending cases. The officer will also take a forward-thinking approach to enhancing the Youth Diversion Program and developing future initiatives.As needed, the officer will assist Aransas Pass Police Department officers with calls for service and other police-related responsibilities.The Police Officer applicant must be fully licensed and in good standing with the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) and meet the minimum standards established under 37 Tex. Admin. Code § 217.1, including:U.S. citizenship and a minimum age of 21.High school diploma or GED from an accredited school.Fingerprinting for local, state, and national criminal history records.Compliance with all TCOLE criminal history and licensing requirements, including no disqualifying convictions, deferred adjudications, community supervision, probation, family violence offenses, or pending charges that would prohibit licensure.No state or federal prohibition against operating a motor vehicle or possessing firearms or ammunition.Freedom from drug dependency and illegal drug use.Valid Texas Class C driver's license and satisfactory driving record.Successful completion of required TCOLE psychological screening and a City-approved medical examination.No TCOLE-mandated license suspensions or revocations.Honorable discharge from prior military service, if applicable.No less than a general discharge from TCOLE for previous peace officer employment.Good moral character, stable employment history, and conduct consistent with suitability for law enforcement.Knowledge, Skills, and AbilitiesLaw enforcement principles, practices, procedures, and applicable laws.Criminal justice and community policing principles.Computer operations, Microsoft Office, and general law enforcement technology.CommunicationCommunicate clearly and professionally, both verbally and in writing.Prepare accurate, concise reports and documentation.Effectively interact with the public, coworkers, supervisors, victims, witnesses, suspects, and other agencies.Decision-MakingExercise sound judgment and make independent decisions.Respond effectively to high-stress and emergency situations.Remain calm and professional during emotionally charged or volatile situations.Apply policies, procedures, laws, and appropriate discretion when making decisions.Organization and MultitaskingManage multiple priorities and transition between tasks efficiently.Maintain accuracy, attention to detail, and timely documentation.Work independently with minimal supervision.Interpersonal and Professional SkillsEstablish and maintain positive working relationships.Demonstrate professionalism, integrity, dependability, and accountability.Exercise tact, diplomacy, discretion, patience, and respect when dealing with others and sensitive information.Work effectively as part of a team.TechnologyUse computers, Microsoft Office, records management systems, databases, and other law enforcement technology.Learn and effectively use new technology and software as required.Preferred qualifications include:Two or more years of law enforcement experience.
