Air Traffic Control Specialist (Terminal)
This is a T5 Excepted Service, Permanent Position. The primary purpose of the AIR TRAFFIC CONTROL SPECIALIST (TERMINAL), GS-2152-11, is to perform Air Traffic control duties at the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) Air TrafficControl Tower at Moffett Field, California.
Obtains and maintains a comprehensive knowledge of airspace, adjacent airway and route structure, operating agreements with other facilities, airport layout, geographic area including significant terrain and other features, location of navigational aids and flight information publications. Maintains various records concerning terminal operations.
Issues control instructions to provide safe and organized flow of ground aircraft traffic and ensures safe separation of airborne traffic within delegated airspace. Relays VFR/IFR departure times to Operations, Flight Service or Approach Control as required. Relays clearances and control instructions between tower and radar and adjacent air traffic control.
Receives, posts, and relays flight data to local, ground, and clearance delivery.
Directs, sequences, and separates arriving, overflying, and departing Instrument Flight Rules (IFR) and Visual Flight Rules (VFR) aircraft operating within assigned airspace. Safeguards and facilitates operation of aircraft operating in the congested airspace.
The position resides within the infrastructure and support functions of the state National Guard; the incumbent is not subject to mobilization, nor is the work described part of the military mission; and the incumbent does not perform a key advisory or essential administrative role that is inherently military. In addition, the position must meet one of the following: It does not have a comparable military function; the position is required in full-time (civilian) role when the organization, or similar military position, is mobilized to perform continuing post-mobilization functions; or the position requires a skill or competency that necessitates technical expertise or professional qualifications that cannot be readily found in the military structure of the state military force. May make additional selections within 90 days of eligible(s) issuance.
