Summary

Supervisor: Martin Walters & Denise Green

Position Role: Library workers (2) provide service at the desks and support for permanent staff through advanced assistant work including processing OhioLINK borrowing, special projects, shelving, and other supervised assigned tasks. This position is geared towards graduate students and workers already experienced in basic library procedures. All applicants may be considered for this advanced position.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Provides excellent customer service at the main desk
  • Checks in and out all library materials
  • Comprehensively understands library policies, procedures, and services
  • Performs basic Circulation functions on the Integrated Library System (ILS) - with advanced permissions
  • Effectively navigates the library webpage and online resources
  • Answers the main library phone, directs calls appropriately, and leaves detailed messages for staff as needed
  • Monitors the presence of food and drink in public areas
  • Assists patrons with basic reference questions, referring to permanent staff as appropriate
  • Assists patrons with paper and online forms (recall, storage, acquisitions requests, etc.)
  • Shelve library materials according to call number
  • Works on ongoing projects and supervisor assigned tasks (shelf reading, inventory, dusting, displays, gift searching)
  • Processes and packages OhioLINK items
  • Works weekend shifts and shifts where no permanent library staff member is present
  • Fills in as acting circulation desk supervisor when no permanent library staff is present
  • Creates library patron accounts for approved special borrowers
  • Assists in training new hire workers
  • Other duties as assigned
Pay Rate: $15.00/hr

Qualifications:
  • 1-2 years library experience
  • Works well with coworkers, supervisor, and patrons
  • Manages and adheres to scheduling commitments
  • Demonstrates excellent interpersonal and customer service skills
  • Adept in general computer tasks and online searching
  • Able to lift physical Library materials and reach for shelving purposes is a requirement
  • Four hours per week minimum commitment
  • Reads music and understands foreign musical terms in a variety of languages
  • Learns new tasks quickly and remains focused on the job
  • Manages highly detailed work and exercises critical thinking/decision-making skills

Dates of Employment: 8/24/26 to 5/6/27, or the date a student has earned their full WS award, or is no longer enrolled full time, whichever comes first.

Evaluation Procedures & Schedule: All Library Workers will be evaluated and monitored on an ongoing basis, with one formal diagnostic per year to be completed with supervisor.
