Deputy Sheriff

A fully trained journey level classification for professional law enforcement work. Incumbents perform a wide range of law enforcement assignments and report to a Sheriff Sergeant. No classifications supervised.
Examples of duties include patrolling assigned areas, conducting preliminary investigations, interrogating witnesses, gathering evidence, serving warrants, making arrests, investigating accidents, assisting with other law enforcement agencies, dispatching personnel, guarding prisoners, transporting clients, developing photographs, and preparing detailed reports.
Knowledge of modern law enforcement methods, laws of apprehension, rules of evidence, juvenile laws, court decisions, geography of Amador County, use and care of firearms, first aid techniques, and criminal identification is required.
Ability to perform professional law enforcement work, understand and interpret laws, observe incidents, secure information, make independent judgments, write reports, meet physical standards, use firearms, represent the department, and establish cooperative relationships is necessary.
Training and experience in law enforcement, P.O.S.T. certification, and advanced educational training in criminology, criminal justice, and law enforcement are desirable.
