Chief Of Police

The City of Mill Valley welcomes applicants for Chief of Police. The Chief of Police will be appointed by and report directly to the City Manager. She/he will be part of the senior leadership team that works collaboratively to provide exceptional services to the community and achieve the priority projects set out by the City Manager and City Council. The Chief of Police manages and directs the 30-member Police Department which is involved with all aspects of law enforcement. Constructive and collaborative relationships are essential for working with colleagues, neighboring law enforcement agencies, local school districts, and community groups. This position provides the opportunity to lead and develop a team of hard-working, dedicated and talented law enforcement professionals who are committed to public service and safety.

Salary: $15,510 - $20,785 (under review)

Paid Leave

  • 15 paid holidays (including 4 floating holidays)
  • 10 Administrative Leave days (80 hours)
  • 2 to 5 weeks of Vacation Leave based upon years of service

Health Coverage

  • City pays the full premium for the Kaiser Family Plan or the equivalent thereof for employees who elect Western Health Advantage HMO
  • City pays the full premium for the Delta Dental Family Plan

Retirement

  • CalPERS
  • New employees with no CalPERS service or a break in service of 6+ months: 2.7% @ 57
  • New employees who are "Classic" CalPERS members and do not have a break in service of more than 6 months: 3% @ 55
  • Employees also pay into a Retirement Health Savings Account
    • First 12 months – employee contributes 1%
    • Year 2 through Year 5 – employee contributes 1%, City matches
    • Over 5 years – employee contributes 1.5%, City matches
  • 457 Deferred Compensation - City offers up to $900/year in matching contributions toward deferred compensation

Other

  • Life Insurance ($50,000) and Long-Term Disability Insurance – City pays the full premium
