Summary

Summary and General Statement of Duties

An employee in this class is responsible for attending BLET classes on a daily basis; listening to instruction, participating in physical fitness training, participating in role play scenarios and taking tests. The employee must have a positiveattitude and desire to learn through hard work and good study habits. The work is performed under the observation and review of the Support Services Division and the supervisor of the Training Unit. This employee is subject to the usual hazards of law enforcement training. This classification is considered nonexempt in compliance with the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).

This position is being advertised to fill upcoming Basic Law Enforcement Training (BLET) classes scheduled to begin in January 2027 and July 2027. Selected candidates will be required to attend the BLET program at Alamance Community College (ACC) and comply with the college's established schedule, which may include afternoon and evening classes, as well as occasional weekends.

Hiring Timeline:

January 2027 BLET Class: Hiring is expected to take place in November–December 2026, with the BLET program beginning in January 2027.

July 2027 BLET Class: Hiring is expected to take place in May–June 2027, with the BLET program beginning in July 2027.

- Learn, understand and apply applicable laws, ordinances, policies and procedures. - Understand and carry out oral and written instructions. - Establish and maintain effective relationships with those contacted in the course of work. - Work under strict law enforcement structure. - Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. - Read and write at the level required for successful job performance. - Meet the public with courtesy and tact. - Analyze situations accurately and select quick, effective and responsible courses of action. - Learn standard broadcasting procedures of a police radio system. - Learn to use a computer and applicable software. - Some knowledge of modern law enforcement principles, practices, and procedures. - Some knowledge of departmental standard operating policies and procedures, and federal, state, and local laws and ordinances. - Some knowledge of practices, materials, techniques, and equipment pertinent to job assignment. - Familiarity and increase in skill in the use of firearms and other authorized law enforcement equipment. - Ability and willingness to act quickly and properly in emergency situations. - Ability and willingness to establish and maintain effective working relationships with superiors, subordinates, and the general public.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities and Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

Work in this position is medium work, exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Employee must have the visual acuity to prepare and analyze data and figures, operate a computer terminal, and perform extensive reading. This employee is exposed to inside and outside working conditions. This employee may be exposed to noise which would cause the worker to shout in order to be heard above the ambient noise level; hazards including proximity to moving equipment; and atmospheric conditions which may affect the respiratory system. Position Qualifications

Education and Experience Graduation from High School or GED Equivalency Special Requirements - Valid North Carolina Driver's License - Ability to obtain certification as a law enforcement officer by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Standards Commission after successful training and based on background review.
