Job Description

Overview

The Utility Technicians are responsible for the maintenance and operation of the six (6) Wastewater Treatment Plants and the City's lift stations. These positions are also responsible for the maintenance and operation of the wastewater collection lines. Employees must remain in compliance with TCEQ and other applicable laws and regulations while working within the scope of their position.

Responsibilities

• Identifies and resolves operating issues at the facility

• Prioritizes and coordinates staffing needs for the facility

• May act as subject matter expert for the division in the absence of the manager

• Oversees the operation, maintenance, monitoring, and performance analysis of potable water and wastewater treatment processes and equipment to ensure efficient, reliable, and regulatory-compliant facility operations

• Direct daily treatment plant operations through routine facility inspections, process monitoring, and adjustment of treatment processes to meet changing operational demands and regulatory requirements

• Leads advanced process control activities, including chemical dosage calculations and adjustments, process testing, troubleshooting, preventive maintenance, and operational decision-making to ensure efficient plant performance

• Monitors sample collection, preservation, and storage for laboratory analysis; reviews and maintains operational records and regulatory reports, including SWMOR, DMR, and MER documentation

• Supervises staff activities, evaluates job performance, supports budget development, implements program initiatives, manages chemical inventory and ordering, and serves as shift leader to ensure safe and compliant facility operations

Position Type and Typical Hours of Work

• Non-Exempt - Full-Time - 40-hour work week

• Must be available to work additional hours as needed

• Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays is a schedule requirement

• In the event of an emergency, employees are required to work to provide for the safety and well-being of the public, including the delivery and restoration of vital services

Minimum Qualifications

• High School Diploma/GED

• Three (3) years of experience

Licenses and Certifications

Required

• A valid driver's license is required; successful out-of-state candidates must be able to obtain a valid Texas driver's license within 90 days of hiring.

• TCEQ Class C Wastewater Operator License

Basis of Rating

A recruitment consultant will evaluate all applications against the posted qualifications. The city may also conduct additional skill assessment tests, in addition to the panel interview
